5.0 out of 5 stars A strong debut from a very talented musician, 23 Feb 2003
By Christine L (Berkshire, England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
I was very impressed with Sinead's debut single. Unlike David Sneddon I think she's produced something with a bit of edge and personality and she pulls it off very well. The chorus is catchy and Sinead's voice is full of attitude. Considering the fact that this is the first song she's ever written for a single release and that it's been quite rushed to get it out on the market while people still remembered the Fame Academy I'm more than impressed. I can't wait to see what she produces once she gets more experience and guidance from her label. Sinead Quinn is a breath of fresh air at a time when we're flooded with manufactured pop performed by people chosen for their looks rather than their talent. I wouldn't be surprised if Sinead manages to shed the Fame Academy label and make it big outside the UK and Ireland.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mighty Quinn, 23 Feb 2003
It would be too easy to dismiss Quinn as yet another reality TV runner-up riding on the coat tails of a show as an easy bypass to instant fame and success, too easy and totally wrong.
If anyone needed to be convinced that the girl can sing listen to her acoustic version of 'I Try' . The title track 'I can't break down' maybe isn't the most fantastic song of all time, I'm not naive enough to believe that can be achieved on the first attempt, but it's still better than most of the chart offerings of today. A smooth range of vocals, a catchy chorus and all the fiesty attitude she can muster make this a little different to the same old same old we get to endure everyday.
Her version of 'Don't Speak' stands up favourably against the original, a hard act to follow indeed.
As a self-confessed detester of reality TV pop creations Sinead Quinn has taken me by suprise, I'm a cynic to the core on the merits of such stars but anyone who can sing as effortlessly as she does, plays their own instruments writes their own songs and has the right kind of "don't give a damn" attitude is alright by me
She may not have shaken the music industry to it's core just yet but all I can say is watch this space

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best rock songs I ever hear, 10 Feb 2003
By James (West Midlands of England) - See all my reviews
Honesty, I haven't spent any money on CD for more than 12 months. But, I just brought this single today because I haven't hear any new song better than this one in the past 12 months.

I first hear the short version of this song from the BBC's FAME last year. I recorded that show and re-played this song more than 40 times before this single release. I think she should be the one who win the FAME award. But, David, the winner, managed to perform his songs in a soft pop way exceptional well.

Sinead has a taste in choosing songs and is very good in singing rock song even thought she is not so good in singing songs in a soft pop way. Her song "I can't break down" is really one of the best rock songs I ever hear. This song is quite innovatively mixed with pop, rock and dance in a very natural way. The background music also very "rock and dance" style. That make this song so special and make us enjoy listening to it.

Her new song is very professional unlike other fresh new pop stars. I have to rate this song as 5 stars. I buy music, I don't buy brand name. So, I wouldn't rate Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi last albums more than 3 stars but I rate Sinead's new song as 5 stars.

Comparing with other singles on the chart, I found that this single worth every pency and would recommend this single to my best friends and to you without any hesitation.

I looking forward to hear more song from Sinead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
A great pop song with a hint of rock. Very catchy song. More songs in the UK chart should be of this quality. Deserves to get to number One.
