Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
The bestselling PC game of all time is finally making its console debut: The Sims allows console gamers to create and control their own little computer people with new level-based gameplay and swankier 3-D graphics.

Many would have assumed that The Sims could never work on a console, but one look at this version will easily prove them wrong. In fact, with the temptation to fall back on a mountain of confusing mouse-operated icons and online patches removed, this could well be the definitive version. For starters, the graphics now look much better than before, being in full 3-D instead of just isometric 2-D. This not only looks better but also allows you to zoom in and out on the action and feels a lot less sterile than the original. Things are still as customisable as ever too, especially via the Create-A-Sim option.

Perhaps the biggest change to how the game plays on a console is in the new level-based missions. The PC original had no real goal; you just designed a family and let them get on with it, interfering with their virtual life as much or as little as you wanted. The console version adds some goals and rewards to the gameplay, which should help to attract the more attention-deficient console owners. There's even a rather odd two-player mode, which, even if it seems a little pointless, is yet more proof that EA are really trying to make this a proper worthwhile console experience and not just the cheap cash-in many would've expected. --David Jenkins

5.0 out of 5 stars So addictive !!!!!, 14 April 2003
This game rocks! It's funny, beautifully done and is extremely addictive! MAXIS are brilliant at making game titles and this one, the most famous of them all, has made it's debue on the Nintendo Gamecube at last! I stayed up till 2:00a.m in the morning playing this game because it is so fun! I think creating your own home and neighbourhood is my favourite but the challenges in GET A LIFE are just as appealing! I give The Sims a 10/10! BUY THIS GAME!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive? Never!, 8 Mar 2004
Of all the games I've ever played or owned this has got to be one of my favourites. It requires good time management, long-term planning and occasional feats of the ridiculous to get anywhere! It's an incredibly fun game and has lots of different choices of play. For example, it is up to you to decide what career you want to have and then get yourself promoted or choose your future husband or wife. As you progree through the game the play gets more complex and you end up controlling more and more characters. There is also a two-player option and the chance to control ready-made families. Personally I like the one-player 'Get a Life' (ironic title since I spend lots of my life wasting time gaming) best. The only annoyance that occurs in this game is the fact that sometimes the characters never stop talking in their 'Sim Speak' and this can become really irritating (although you can turn it off, I think, but then I miss things). Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone and I'm sure they'd enjoy it :)
