If there's a better DVD of soulful live music from the eighties by Marvin or for that matter any other artist then please tell me somebody!

I bought this over a week ago and it has not left my DVD player once. Each track sounds better and better with each listen and for someone who was only 4 years old when the concert actually took place it shows that old is most definately gold!

If you like soulful music of any genre be it house, nu-soul or Hip Hop you need to buy this DVD.

Frankly one of the best concert DVD's I have ever seen... The image is crisp, the sound is excellent... just what you expect from something released in 2003 technologically speaking, but with all the flavor of yesteryear... I mean no flashy camera changes, no useless travellings, and what I really liked no permanent close ups on the singer. I mean I love Marvin Gaye, but when I go to a concert I look at the star of the show and sometimes to the musicians wether they take a solo or not... just like here... You can see the horn section (with luminaries such as Kush Griffith & Rick Gardner), the drummer, and just about anybody in the band... Plus the song selection was absolutely great and Marvin... well what can I say... perfect just like this DVD...

Unfortunately I'm not in a position to compare this DVD with the other concert DVD's of this legendary soul singer, but what I can say is that I can't imagine there's better footage around. (Come to think of it, I saw the Amsterdam concert on tv once, but this Montreux show is from another planet! Anyone who likes the music of Marvin Gaye just a little bit will not be disappointed with this DVD. Sound and music are sublime and the DVD shows Marvin in supershape. The choice of songs give a nice overview of his career with classics from "Here my dear", "Trouble man", "Let's get it on", his sixties hits and, ofcourse the phenomenal "What's going on". There's a lot of ad libbing and improvisation going down. Marvin's spare keyboard solo's are beautiful, and the band... well the band is amazing! After a funky start, the show becomes more and more soulful. Every song touches the heart, especially his interpretations of his sixties hits. Also the three male background singers (beautiful voices, great arrangements) give a good show. The only problem I have with this DVD is that it starts too late and ends too early!
