Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Now's your chance to take the red pill for real and Enter The Matrix--not simply a video game adaptation of the films but a whole new chapter in the Matrix saga. Indeed, the best thing about Enter The Matrix is the way it seamlessly connects with the three films, for although it's based on none of them directly, it allows you to play the role of either Niobe or Ghost (minor characters from The Matrix Reloaded) while running into the likes of Neo, Morpheus and Agent Smith as the game's story unfolds. Not only that but the story, as well as all the exclusive video footage, is written and directed by the films' creators, the Wachowski brothers.

The game itself is, somewhat predictably, a third-person shoot-'em-up not at all dissimilar to a more balletic version of Max Payne. It's somewhat surprising though, for such a high-profile game, to find the graphics are actually a little below par and the controls somewhat clunky, but generally it all looks and plays pretty well with all the classic Matrix-style slow-motion acrobatics relatively easy to pull off.

Easily the best bits of the game are the on-foot chase sequences, usually involving agents, which are actually rather tense and a great way to show off all the running and leaping powers you've mastered in the rest of the game. The worst bits are the car chases, especially if you play as Niobe and have to put up with the terrible car handling, instead of just hanging out the window and shooting as Ghost. Still, this is a decent game overall which, although unlikely to win any awards in itself, is sure to please most Matrix fans. --David Jenkins

3.0 out of 5 stars Distinctly average..., 20 May 2003
Well, I've been playing this for an afternoon now and it isn't really getting any better. It could have been so GOOD, and that's the frustrating thing... so many things are going for it yet it's ultimately let down by its generally shoddy nature.

The movies are great and tie in directly to Final Flight of The Osiris, the CG Matrix short, and the story of Reloaded. Jada Pinkett Smith's acting and the guy who plays Ghost try hard with a duff script, but the direction is pretty good, even in-game. If only the in-game graphics actually matched up to the Wachowski's ambitions.

I'm running it on a mammoth PC and IT SLOWS DOWN, even patched. This isn't when in focus-mode, either. There are glitches left right and centre, stiff character models and odd musical cues. The fighting is initially satisfying yet let down completely by a terrible camera system which gets lost, and ultimately costing much-needed health for your chosen avatar.

So? A dissapointment. Shiny were capable of much, much more than this. Buy it, but don't say I didn't warn you... I was warned and I bought it anyway...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun!, 24 Aug 2003

I think this game is brilliant, actually.
Unlike games like the newest Tomb Raider, once you get used to the controls you have 100% control over your character.
There's many people here saying the graphics aren't good, but that's simply not true. The graphics are not the type where it's made to look every bit as realistic as possible, but they give a real animated Matrix feel to the game, with lots of Matrix greens!
The fighting is second to none also - I am constantly finding out new moves. You can quite literally go into "focus" mode (bullet dodging mode) and take a flying dive into a battle whilst aiming, firing and killing about a dozen SWAT men in a couple of seconds, land, then run up a wall and kick four SWAT men in the head at once, killing them all! But it takes practice! Like someone else said, it's easy in some places, but very difficult in others. And by the way, you can't beat Smith up in the game, it's actually impossible! :(

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game and fun some handling problems, 10 Jun 2003

Well since buying the game I have been entralled by it. The graphics when you get to run around are great. The driving graphics and handling so far are a bit poor and to be honest you just want to get to the next fight. The controls for fighting take a little bit of getting use to but when you do the fight scenes can look like something out of a film. The Focus manouveurs are pretty damn good to and have some fun just trying to find out exactly what you can do and you will be immersed.
