Great show but where are the remaining 8 seasons!!!, 3 Feb 2006
I love Birds of a Feather. It really is one of those shows that I could just sit down and watch episode after episode. However sadly only the first series has been released which is really dissapointing and the reason for me not purchasing it! I don't wanna get into it one day and not be able to watch the rest of the show because it really shines later on in the years. So as the BBC have managed to release the complete seasons of other shows like Keeping Up Appearences, One Foot In The Grave, Last Of The Summer Wine, Absolutely Fabulous, Vicar of Dibley and many more could they please release more of this show that is loved by millions and ran for 9 years!!!

Overlooked Classic British Sitcom: 1989-1998, 26 April 2006
Throughout the 1990's, Birds Of A Feather achieved huge ratings and was frequently repeated throughout the duration of the decade. Into the twenty first century, time seems to have somewhat eclipsed Birds Of A Feather' remarkable achievements, despite it spanning a run of over 100 episodes over nine successful seasons. It is also questionably overlooked by many sneering critics as a trur classic, which without doubt, it truly is.
To date, only the very first series of this much loved and much missed sitcom is available on DVD. Indeed the very first season of Birds Of A Feather is arguably the very finest in the series, displaying a real earthy quality, striking a winning transistion between gritty kitchen sink drama and familiar sitcom terriotry, yet not once quite shaking off its realistic undertone. Needless to say as the series progressed it did subsequently lose that raw edge that had made the show such a winner and by the final season in 1998 it had disintigrated into just another sitcom though always remained watchable.
Established and highly talented actresses Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson shine as two sisters leading two very different lifestyles. Sharon (Pauline Quirke) lived in a run-down council block with her good-for-nothing husband, Chris whilst Tracey (Linda Robson) lived in the height of luxury with her husband, Daryl.
In the very first episode, Chris and Daryl are arrested following their involvement in an armed robbery and are sentenced to eight years imprisoment. Devastated to be seperated from "my Daryl" Tracey invites Sharon to move in with her at her luxury home. They constantly have to endure the company of man-eating Dorien Green, their snobbish neighbour played marvelously by Lesley Joseph who soon becomes a close friend of theirs. It is this startling contrast of characters that made Birds Of A Feather so special.
All six episodes of series 1 are excellent in every way. The dialogue flows along naturally without trying too hard to be funny (as was the case with some of the very late episodes in the series), with spot on direction and sparkling performances from that wonderful trio - Pauline Quirke, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph.
Bonus features on the DVD includes a rather touching and sentimental interview with Lesley Joseph who reflects om the shows enormous success and an interview with the heros behind this comedy, Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran.
Excellent, enjoyable stuff! A classic and a must for any comedy collection.

........flock together..., but where are the others!!!!!!, 14 Jan 2007
This series ran for the best part of a decade and was constantly up in the top viewing figures. This was more than a pure sit-com, as they were not scared to touch on some difficult situations that ordinary people have to cope with. It was extremely funny, but also poignant and often sad and I loved it from the first episode to the last. All three main players were perfect for their parts and were well supported by the rest of the superb cast.
It is an absolute disgrace that the rest of the series' are not available. We have many DVD releases and "complete collections" of other, frankly, dire sit- coms, yet this one remains glaring by it's absence. It's about time someone got their finger out and brought this highly rated and beloved series to DVD. Come on BBC, give Sharon, Tracey & Dorian, the epitaph they richly deserve.
We want the other series!!!!!!!!!!!!
