Synopsis

Fame Academy was the BBC's alternative to the highly successful ITV series Pop Idol, and set out with the same aim of discovering a hot new pop talent for 2003. The twist was that the contestants were holed up 24 hours a day in the academy buildings, and each week the students were forced to battle it out in a live televised show to save themselves from elimination. This DVD follows the paths of all the contestants, emphasising the eventual winner David Sneddon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing, 16 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Having been a huge fan of Fame Academy from start to finish,I was naturally very eager to get this DVD..however I'm left feeling very dissapointed and a bit ripped off by the lack of new stuff here.Don't get me wrong, the musical section is great(though I would have liked to see David and Lemar's wonderful version of As on there) but the footage which promised the 'Fame Academy story from start to finish'was short, boring and included about two clips I hadn't seen before! It just told(very briefly)what happened, not what I was expecting at all I' sure they could have done a lot better than this.

3.0 out of 5 stars A wasted opportunity, 9 Jan 2003
By A Customer
I admit it, I was completely obsessed with Fame Academy. I think it was the best reality TV show ever. As a consequence I watched a lot of the live streaming on BBC Choice but generally only in the evening. I was so excited when this DVD came out as it promised lots of unseen material. IT DOES NOT! Most of the DVD is just highlights of the Friday night show on BBC1. There does not appear to be anything that has not been already broadcast. If you are a die hard fan you are going to buy this but otherwise don't bother as there is nothing that has not been seen before.

On a more positive note there is more coverage of Ainslie than any of the other student which can only be a good thing. Even here they have not included classic scenes like when him and Mali were pretending to be farmers.

The DVD includes a selection of songs performed on the Friday show, including some that are not on the CD, including Bad Bad Butcher!

I was disappointed that there wasn't more content in this. A few of the more memorable performances would have been good rather than just a few seconds clip. Read more
