5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the fantasy zone, 18 Sep 2003
By Horridbloke (Bournemouth, UK) - See all my reviews
I just received a GBA-SP and this cartridge as a 31st birthday present and I'm bowled over by it: saddos of my age remember the original arcade versions, which were utterly state-of-the-art in the late eighties. All four games are faithful conversions, down to the attract modes and the music. They feature lots of scaled sprites and smooth movement. There are some graphical compromises, mainly in the form of blocky roads or grids, but this isn't particularly noticable during play. The small gba screen dilutes the "stuff-flying-at-you-really-fast" effect a bit, but that's understandable.

Space Harrier and Outrun are the two stars. Space Harrier has lots of weird things (robots, rocks, space ships, giant mushrooms, big orange hairy things, big stone heads) flying at you at high speed for you to shoot or dodge, with some neat end-of-level big dragons and weirdos to destroy. Outrun has cool speeding on open roads in nice scenery. It's a tad on the easy side but the alternative routes keeps it interesting as does its extreme coolness. Super-Hangon is okay but suffers from sharing the cartridge with a better driving game. Fans of Afterburner, which involves flying a fighter plane against waves of uncoming planes will be pleased to hear it's just as unplayable as it's always been.
This cartridge really is a bit of a bargain, especially as they could probably have got away with selling Outrun on its own. Get it and put a smile on your face, you aging saddo...

2.0 out of 5 stars SEGA ARCADE, 13 Sep 2005
By A Customer
well, well, well. To cut a long story short, I would say that 2 games out of 4 are worth it! Super hang on and Outrun. The rest (Afterburner and Space...)are really bad though the maniability of the fourth games are excellent! Good graphic quality as well.

I only recommend it to the very fans of old classic games !

5.0 out of 5 stars the retro days return, 4 Aug 2003
eventually four classics are resurrected into your pocket here we have outrun, super hang on, space harrier and after burner all put into one cartridge and i will tell you now you want to come back for more ,here is a brief description of the games

after burner: you hop into your f14 jet and get rid of anything that moves

outrun: race from point a to b in a limited amount of time in your turbo convertable

super hang on : race across some of the most amazing countries of the world on your powerful turbo motorcycle

space harrier : bring peace to the dragons by blasting through
18 stages encountering wave after wave of creatures

these are the 4 games featured and overall the gameplay is addictive and easy to play and the controls are easy to use
so overall an essential purchase for retro heads
