Amazon.co.uk Review
Nintendo admitted that the GBA couldn't really handle 3-D graphics, but
Super Monkey Ball Jnr is one egg in the face they'll be only too delighted to receive. The original GameCube games detail the unusual activities of a bunch of monkeys who like nothing more than navigating mazes in a giant hamster ball. It's up to you to tilt the worlds around so that they succeed, and ensure that much fun is had by all. And that's exactly what
Super Monkey Ball Jnr is about, too. Amazingly, it's an almost perfect copy of the first game with only a few of the levels and some of the graphical detail removed.
The only problem is that the ultra-fine control of the GameCube version has been lost because of the nature of the GBA's D-pad. This actually makes some of the mazes even harder, but short of using tilt control technology (sadly lacking here) it's hard to see how else it could have been done. To make up for things though the game contains three party games, in the form of Monkey Fight, Monkey Bowling and Monkey Golf. The last two work particularly well since they can be played by up to four people on just one console. All of this undoubtedly makes this the best monkey-in-a-ball simulator ever for the GBA... --David Jenkins
