Not the greatest Banco album ever, but not far off..., 19 May 2003
The track list alone sold this album to me, despite me already having practically every track on it. I've must confess to being a big fan of live recordings anyway, and this does not disappoint; the crowd are clearly loving it, and not without reason!Firstly, it must be said that this CD does not lend itself to background chillout as well as some of the studio albums, but this is no bad thing. Also, most of the tracks are pretty similar to the standard album versions, but again, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. And that's about the only criticism I can find about this album. My favourite tracks on the album are Mafich Arabi, which although it is almost identical to the version on "Maya", just seems to come alive with the crowd and the atmosphere of the recording; 887 and finally Data Inadequate, which is for me the best song on the album. It has a really funky beat to it, great pulsing bassnotes and some wicked samples, plus it's the last song of this Glastonbury set so the crowd are pretty wild. If you after a more rounded introduction to Banco de Gaia the recently released "10 Years..." is your best bet, as three stunning albums were made after this was originally released, and this contains none of the material from these albums. Having said that, if you want an introduction to the earlier stuff Banco de Gaia did, then this is a great buy, and is a great addition to any Banco addict's collection!
