Amazon.co.uk Review

It wasn't until the beginning of Stargate SG-1's fourth season that fans knew to take the Replicator threat seriously. The spidery nasties had only seemed like one of many new enemies introduced in previous years. But when the one seemingly omnipotent backbone of the galaxy was asking Earth for help, clearly we were in real trouble! In fact, the team's list of enemies expanded and got far more complicated this year. Proving without a shadow of a doubt that this is science fiction, the Russians reveal they have their own Stargate program and ask the Americans for help. This twist allows for exploration of all the political machinations occurring behind the scenes of the SG-C, all of which appear to stem from the embittered Senator Kinsey (Ronny Cox).

There were quite a few Earth-based stories in the year, but not all the new enemies were originally local. Willie Garson comically guest-starred as Martin, a geekily suspicious guy with too much knowledge of the Stargate. More sinister was an old flame of Daniel's turning into something far more painful than an old wound (thanks to an ancient Egyptian curse). Thankfully, the writers hadn't forgotten the importance of one-off storylines too. In "Upgrades" the team learns a lesson in abuse of power. In "The Other Side" (featuring DS9's Rene Auberjonois) they learn about blind trust. In "Scorched Earth" a dangerous claim for a planet's ownership means they learn to value Daniel's contribution to the group dynamic. If only this last lesson were learned better, season 5 might not have ended up as muddled as it did. --Paul Tonks

5.0 out of 5 stars Stargate Is The Best!, 26 Mar 2005
I am a massive Stargate fan(although i am not into any other sci-fi) and am aiming to have all the Stargate season boxsets. So far I have seasons 1,3,4 and 7 but I think the 4th is deffinitely the best by far.
In the 4th season there are some great episodes like the hilarious, and in my opinion one of the best episodes ever,Window of Oppurtunity, 2010 and the season cliff-hanger finale, Exodus which is also Michael Shanks's directing debut. Chemistry between O'Neil and Carter really begins to show and this is the first box-set to include special features like previews and cast diaries and i don't usually bother with things like that but these extra features are actually pretty good.
So for any Stargate fans, you have to get this season boxset. Also, the price is so great, its worth getting even if you you only want to see a few of the episodes. A great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Enjoyable Season, 3 Aug 2003
After careful consideration, I worked out that this is probably my favourite season of Stargate, which is why I bought it. If you're familiar with the programme, season 4 featured more:

high quality adventure (season opener "Small Victories," "Watergate," "Tangent" and season cliffhanger "Equinox" to name a few),
enjoyable comedies ("Window of Opportunity," "Upgrades" and "Point of No Return" are all hilarious),
high concept science fiction ("Beneath the Surface," "2001")
and very involved moral conflicts ("The Other Side" and "Scorched Earth"),
than any other season before or after it, as yet. The characters are also at their peak of humour and interaction, and there's also some attraction between O'Neill and Carter that is expanded this season. Daniel and Teal'c are also given many opportunities to shine.

As well as the superior episodes, all of which will make you laugh at some point amidst the action, the picture quality of this set is greater than seasons 1 to 3, simply because it is newer and Stargate was filmed with clearer lenses. The extras are also a greater bonus- each DVD has some aspect of Stargate behind the scenes talked about, and the interesting and often funny audio commentaries can make all the episodes enjoyable to watch even if you've watched time-loop extravaganza "Window of Opportunity" too many times.

Overall, this should be the essential purchase for big Stargate fans, before the show changed for the worse in the next couple of seasons. The box is a nice orange colour too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best yet!, 19 May 2005
In my opinion this is the best Stargate SG1 series made. Starting with the conclusion to 'Nemesis' tackling the Replicators alongside the Asgard and ending with encountering the mechanical bugs again, dealing with the Tok'Ra, Goa'uld technology, supposed alies and the Harseces child in between. A huge variety of storylines and some of the best one liners from Jack O'Neill, with the inclusion of some great extras and behind the scenes footage. My personal favourites in the series are Small Victories, Upgrades, Window of Opportunity - bet you thought you'd never see Teal'c golfing through the Stargate! - 2010 and Prodigy. Well worth the money as ever with the Stargate SG1 team.

5.0 out of 5 stars stargate
The first few seasons were my favourite. Things got a bit lost later on and the final few single dvd releases were very disappointing.
