5.0 out of 5 stars Best abulm of 2003 so far, 20 Feb 2003
I havent had this CD for long so im still getting used to it. This appears to be Aaron Funks most accesable and possibly least harsh albums yet. Tracks like Gottrahmen could have been written by Randy Greif, and the drum patterns tend to consist more of squeaks and electronic slicing than the actuall distorted snares of his older works, and i have to say i like this sound as much as anything hes done so far. I think by comparison its probably closest to 2370894 in sound. Definately not as raw and sounds more produced than the printf and greg hates car culture era. But this is as awesome and forfilling as any album you could expect from the snares. I highly recommend it above any other electronic artist you could think of, buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, 27 Mar 2003
By M. Anderson - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Although I don't know of many other artists similar to this sound, the closest I can compare it to is the likes of Aphex Twin's fast techno tracks on Druqks. The CD has a mixture of rapid electronic beeps and beats and calmer, moody ambience. However, whereas Aphex Twin's similar work can be all over the place, Venetian Snares can hold the tracks down whist still maintaining a sense of edginess and randomness.

What surprised me was the thought, structure, and variety of the tracks - the low pitch slow vocals of 'Dad' sound great against it's backing, 'Suffocate' sounds as if he'd stolen a ship from an old arcade shoot em up and destroyed a city, whereas 'Cashew' is random angelic drum and bass. 'Stairs Song' and 'In Quod' is his most hardcore tracks. Slower track highlights include the brilliant 'Sink Snow Angel', and the delightfully evil 'Icosikaipent', and the moody ambience of 'Gottrahmen'.

Some of the tracks seemed to be somewhat short lasting 3-4 minutes, there is a good 15 minutes more audio that could have fit on the cd and it would have been great to see longer tracks. However, great music always seems short, and I would definately not like to put this as a disadvantage.

This CD has not been out of my CD Player since i bought it - everytrack has something unique and intelligent to offer. Most likely the best album I've bought this year, worth the 4-6 week dispatch time. Recommended to all fans of intelligent techno and electronic music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, 23 Dec 2003
Being that most hated of entities on the electronic scene, the converted rock fan (although I have the good manners to hate Autechre, unlike all the Radiohead fans), my knowledge of this genre (glitch n' bass? :/) is still small, but WITBOAS is an utterly unbelievable, perfect masterpiece. Fragile, terrifying at times, endlessly inventive, stunningly intricate. Just buy it, god dammit :P You won't regret having waited 4-6 weeks.
