Amazon.co.uk Review
For Steps fans, Christmas 2001 will be remembered as the bleak time when the fab five announced that they were splitting. The End of the Road is the recording of their final performance at Manchester's MEN Arena. Deceptively more polished and cohesive than their previous performances, the show does retain some of the traditions of previous Steps tours. More of a holiday-camp spectacular than a traditional live concert, the majority of the tracks appear to be pre-recorded, with only the slower tracks being performed with "live" vocals. As expected, all of their biggest hits are staged but a disproportionate amount of album and new compositions are also included. These impromptu moments were undoubtedly added to provide convenient costume change breaks, with the five each taking turns to perform tracks individually. First off is H who swoops over the audience on a trapeze at the start of his rendition of Cher's "Believe". To anyone other than a star-struck 10-year-old, H's stage behaviour comes across as a tad annoying not to say patronising. He also manages to ruin most of the up-tempo tracks by encouraging the audience to shout "ooh, ooh". In retrospect, the show is fascinating to watch for other reasons, particularly as band member Claire looks close to tears throughout, ominously hinting at her insider knowledge of the impending split.

On the DVD: Steps: The End of the Road features the following candid warning: "Our apologies for the slight drop out in the programme. This was unavoidable but it does not mean your copy is faulty!". Luckily the glitch in "Love's Got a Hold on My Heart" only lasts a couple of seconds, resulting in a brief loss of sound, with the visual and audio recording immediately returning to standard. Appealing to fans of dance computer games, the lightweight extras are focused around mastering 30-second dance routines of some of Steps' greatest hits. --John Galilee

5.0 out of 5 stars Steps Greatest Hits tour, 28 Oct 2002
By Mr. Adam Grant "Soap fan" (Hinckley, Leicestershire, England) - See all my reviews

This video was Steps last ever live gig from the Gold Tour that was on live on tv last Christmas is Manchester. This video is a must buy for every fan that followed them becasue it was their best and biggest concert they did with all their hits. Watch H parachute from the ceiling to the stage to sing Believe (Cher hit song) and Lisa being lifted up on a chain through the crowd singing Bittersweet. Then watch all 5 members walk down a metal walkway above the crowd singing Stomp and Tragedy then finished their concert with Chain reaction. This concert was truley amazing both being in the arena like myself and watching again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Save the best till last, 28 Nov 2002
When Steps split, half the nation was in tears as a result. This final release from the fantastically popular group is the perfect way to remember them

Filmed during their final performance on December 22nd 2001 live at Manchester's MEN Arena, Steps' usual high-energy dances accompany what has to be the most spectacular live performance of the last ten - fifteen years - only Pink Floyd's The Wall can come close to this show!

With H and Lisa seen dangling from a high-wire, the whole group singing out loud from a suspended platform above the audience, Steps: The Last Dance (End of the Road) will keep you entertained from start to finish. If you were lucky enough, like myself, to see their performance live last year, this DVD will make sure you treasure the memory forever. If you couldn't catch it because it sold out too quickly, then this will be the perfect way to make sure you have a lasting memory and moments of the UK's greatest pop band, STEPS.
