Borland Delphi, for a Rapid Application Development language is a great language.
The design of the language itself leads to clear, well written and most importantly stable code, as errors are more likely to show up in compile time, rather than run time strangeness.
The IDE itself is clear,and intuitive, leading to a good learning curve of use.
However, the stumbling point is complete lack of database access tools (those components being only included on the Professional version, costing almost ten times as much). Considering the amount of non-professional use of Databases these days, complete lack of database support in the personal edition is a glaring hole.
That lack is all that prevents this being a 5 star product, and sadly, it'll have to be a 4, as it's utility is seriously impaired in a goodly many situations without at least some form of DB support.

Delphi has always been the quiet stallion in rapid development. People always harp on about visual basic, Delphi is more flexible than visual basic in that it can be easily compiled up so you dont need to ship those 20+DLLs you do for VB.

This version of delphi is designed for a hobbyist. If you need database work you'd need pro, and if you want the src for the units so you can debug your code further, you need to go for the enterprise version (which is majorly expensive).

Technically you can still code database support into your work with this version of delphi, you just need to use alternative components.

If you're new to coding, but want a language that can grow with you, delphi is really it. You can define your own components, morph someone elses, use assembler to speed up routines (if you have assembler knowledge) and yet remain totally in control.
