The well established folk record company Greentrax have an absolute winner here. This has been around for a few years, but with its mix of well established folk artists is certainly worth getting.
Eric Bogle's Santa Bloody Claus here is the Australian version complete with ripe language - he has a much tamer European version!

Cyril Tawney has a song from the 60s in There Are No Lights Upon Our Christmas Tree and his unusual take on the Nativity, The Lone Shepherd, is a very different kind of Christmas song.

Those who have seen Robin Laing live will have chuckled as they shuddered at his 'Man Who Slits The Turkey's Throats at Christmas' . Bill Barclay's drunken Twelve Days of Christmas received a fair amount of radio play in its time - it still amuses.

My own favourite track is the McCalman's 'God Bless The Birthday Boy'. The McCalman's now laughingly disown this song and haven't made the lyrics available. A real shame, because it's an absolute winner, with a hypnotic bodhran beat, but sung so fast I've never been able to quite make out all the words.

Enoch Kent, a former member of The Exiles with the late Bobby Campbell and Gordon McCulloch, here has a blast at the materialism of Christmas with his Christmas Comes But Once A Year. Enoch was also a founder member of the legendary Singer's Club with Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger. Happily he is still with us and still singing, these days in Canada.

Worth getting? DEFINITELY! Though if you like folk ...you may well have this great album already.
