Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Ask a Woman Who Knows reunites Natalie Cole with producer Tommy LiPuma, who produced "Unforgettable" and was the hit maker behind George Benson and Diana Krall. This collection is a classic blend of jazz-inflected pop, with the best and the brightest in the business. Backed by a plethora of stars, including trumpeter Roy Hargrove, bassist Christian McBride, pianist Joe Sample and drummer Lewis Nash, Cole delivers her lithe, Ella Fitzgerald-tinged vocals in a number of pleasing settings. Whether it's the Brazilian sound of Sergio Mendes' "So Many Stars," the scat-happy "My Baby Just Cares for Me" or the big band swing of "It's Crazy" and "Soon", courtesy of the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra, Cole projects her aura on to songs once sung by Sarah Vaughan, Barbara Streisand, Nina Simone, and Dinah Washington. Natalie Cole is a jazzy soul survivor in the literal sense of the term, and this recording represents her finest hour. --Eugene Holley Jr.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ask A Woman Who Knows - Then Ask Natalie Cole!, 25 Feb 2006
Most well known for 2 reasons. 1. Nat King Cole’s daughter 2. For her renditions of 1980’s classics ‘Miss You Like Crazy’, ‘’Pink Cadillac’ and from the film Pretty Woman ‘Wild Women Do’.

But with ‘Ask A Woman Who Knows’, Natalie Cole returns to the music she has always shown a great admiration for. ‘Ask A Woman’ is a beautiful album complete with Jazz arrangements that complement Cole’s divine vocal quality.

She shares the microphone with another Jazz sensation Diana Krall for ‘Better Than Anything’ and does not fail to impress with renditions of ‘Calling You’ from the film Baghdad Cage and ‘The Music That Makes Me Dance’ from the stage show Funny Girl that made Barbra Streisand a star. Natalie’s silky smooth voice is better than ever on tracks like ‘Nothing Better To Do’ and the title track. But it’s the lead single ‘Tell Me All About It’ that is the albums standout. Certainly one of Natalie’s best recordings, the UK editions of this CD also includes an equally charming radio remix. ‘Tell Me All About It’ has everything that one can demand from a song – a beautiful arrangement, a soulful vocal performance and a first class production. The rest of the album follows this example.

This album is for any musical lover who appreciates good sounds. It’s passionate, fulfilling, and demonstrates Natalie in a light that can only sustain her as one of the best loved female vocalists of our time.

5.0 out of 5 stars MOVING!!!, 2 Nov 2005

(REAL NAME)
Natalie Cole has done it this time! If you like the cool lazy jazz kind you'll love this album. Some fantastic tracks " So Many Stars " I could listen to it all day. Great production and great content, just the right mixture of fast and slow tracks and you can definately click your fingers to " Better than anything. "

1.0 out of 5 stars It's pretty much....snoresville !!, 18 Mar 2004
By A Customer
Deviating from her trademark pop/soul area,Natalie Cole tries this time to switch on the jazz one.
It is a smart move, since the pop battlefield is so crowded and competitive.
The production is excellent but at the end you feel that there is no heart inside.Plenty of glossy and glamorous material...But...
She doesn't impress me !
