Continuously switching guises between progressive social commentators and mainstream AOR songsters, the Manic Street Preachers have always had a love-hate relationship with both music critics and the record-buying public. Forever Delayed visually highlights this dichotomy, as well as exposing their contradictory stance towards capitalism. Dependent on the free market to disseminate their material to the masses but at the same time deeply aware of the inequalities it causes, the group has continuously tried to achieve a balance between the political and popular. The videos express these paradoxes, with production usually falling into one of two categories: the in-yer-face political promos ("Little Baby Nothing", "So Why So Dad?"), and the everyday ("Found That Soul", "Ocean Spray"). Sadly, despite their riotous intentions, the videos made up of live concert material ("Life Becoming a Landslide", "The Masses Against the Classes") sit in the latter category, primarily because of their predictability.

Matching the style and typeface of their release artwork, one of the group's long-standing favourite video techniques for their more politically inclined releases has been the incorporation of critical slogans and quotes. From "You Love Us" to 1999's "Tsunami", sublime and usually incomprehensible messages are flashed on the screen. Whether these are radical anti-capitalist messages or pretentious stylistic techniques to sell more records is unclear. It seems the jury remains out on the real motivations behind both these videos and the band itself.

On the DVD: Forever Delayed features all 30 of the band's videos, from "Motown Junk" (1990) to "There by the Grace of God" (2002), plus 14 bonus remixes, a discography and photo gallery. All of the audio material is presented in either Dolby stereo or the more wholesome 5.1 surround format. Even the remix tracks have accompanying visual material, usually made up of clips from the original video, rare footage, and photographs of the band. The menus follow the design and typeface of the album artwork, making them stylish but at times difficult to read. The icons and on-screen track listing are also complicated to access. --John Galilee

This really is the perfect release for anyone who is a fan of the Manics or has an interest in the history of what is undoubtably one of the most fascinating and hotly debated bands of the last twenty years.

If i was to be at all critical of this release (and some of this REALLY is a completist splitting hairs) then the claim that it contains all the Manics videos falters over not containing the early New Art Riot era promo, also a complete discography should really contain format details and information on b-sides, album tracks and rare releases.

However, having said this these things are unlikley to affect either the completest who is likley to have all these things anyway or bother the more casual fan unduly.

The DVD itself is packed with features, including quotes to every single, a Mitch Ikeda photo gallery of unseen pictures all of which are excellent, the remixes with graphics and images from manics live shows (including the comical faux Karl Marx from their last reading performance, who looks more like father christmas than anything else) are a great addition.

Ultimatley, all extra features aside this is simply a chronological musical and visual study of the most fascinating band of a generation, their development through many guises, highs and lows and stands up as a monument of rock n' roll history.

So in conclusion, five stars or any marking system can not do this collection justice, it is a visual reminder of what has made the Manics so news worthy, controversial and amazing over the years, truly a must buy!!

The Forvever Delayed DVD seems to offer everything that the CD of the same name couldn't. Whereas the CD was a scrambled, highly refutable collection of the band's 'greatest hits' offering little to the avid Manic Street Preachers fan's collection, the DVD brings previously unavailable material of the band's videos onto one neat package. Everything from the Manic's early outings of 'Motown Junk' to the latest single 'There By The Grace of God' are here, spanning over 10 years, six albums and interminable illustrations into the Manic's sense of 'fashion'. This collection is useful in that since MTV seems preocupied with 'flavours of the month' rap and garage bands, great videos like 'Faster' and 'Motorcycle Emptiness' seldom, if ever get played. I have been waiting for a collection like this for four years, and now it is here, it certainly didn't dissapoint.

For anyone who like's the Manics this is the collection that we have all waited for. Now I can finally tape over the half recorded versions of classics such as "mowtown junk", "stay beautiful", "roses in the hospital" and the simply fantastic "design for life" (best music video ever, in my humble opinion).
What you are getting here are all 30 promos from the manics back catalogue. The only exceptions are "repeat" and "pcp" which were double A sides and had no videos made. The dvd also comes with 13 bonus remix tracks accompained by visualisations, a Mitch Ikeda photo Gallery and a full UK discography.
This is what my DVD player has been waiting for. The best dvd purchase that I have ever made. Go on treat yourself
