Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Exactly how Eminem was able to assemble so many credible emcees of today and yesteryear (Jay-Z, Rakim) to endorse his Holly'hood coming-out party, 8 Mile, is anyone's guess. What is clear, however, is that (dare we say it) the Shady One might be growing up. On "Lose Yourself" Em abandons his callous, hardcore posturing to write thoughtful hood-centric coming-of-age lyrics that would make Melle Mel proud. On "Battle" Gang Starr's Guru tears through a sick beat from rap's most prolific producer DJ Premier. Sadly, Nas wastes more valuable studio time dissing Jay-Z (ho-hum) on "You Wanna Be Me". Interestingly, once you get past the living-legend love-in and peep the skills from Em's lesser-known Shady Records roster of below-ground wordsmiths--50 Cent ("Wanksta") or Obie Trice ("Adrenaline Rush"), you might urge Em to consider giving up his thespian pursuits to become a full-time record executive. Not even the baffling inclusion of Macy Gray's humdrum "Time of Your Life" can sink this project. --Dalton Higgins

3.0 out of 5 stars An okay album but hardly any tracks from the film, 26 Mar 2003

'Music from and inspired by the motion picture' it says on the cover, but it seems that nearly all of the tracks are of the inspired kind, rather than some of the great music from the actual film. It sounds a bit harsh, but if it is the vibe of the film that you are after, you wont find it on this album - the older hip hop tracks that really characterise the film can be found on More Music From 8 Mile, the second CD from the film.

So what is the album like, apart from that? If you like modern rap music, you WILL like it, there are some great tracks by Nas, Xzibit, 50 Cent, and of course Eminem, whereas the rest are good to okay.

All in all, it's an okay album, but not worthy of more than three stars due to the fact that I dont really consider it to be a soundtrack to the film.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Cd, but not enough tracks from the movie, 12 Mar 2003
By Andre Mountain (Lincoln, UK) - See all my reviews

Anyone thinking about buying this CD should know that there are not many tracks on it from the actual film. If you are after Eminem's 'Lose Yourself' and some okay tracks by rappers such as Jay-Z, Nas, Rakim and Gangstarr, then you may like this CD, but if you are after some of the old school stuff as featured throughout the film, you should buy 'More Music From 8 Mile' which is the real soundtrack.

This is a good CD with some great tracks, but a soundtrack to the movie it ain't.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent stuff!, 24 Sep 2003
Well, it certainly is a joy to see such a great variety of hip hop crammed into 1 CD, and that is hard to find sometimes. But Em is at his best here, with fantastic tracks like 'Lose yourself', '8 mile' and 'Rabbit run'. Em also introduces 2 of his latest signings- 50 cent and Obie Trice who both feature with Slim on the decent 'Love you' and also have some tracks on their own. Obie has the hardcore 'Adrenaline rush' and 50 has 'places to go' which unfortunately isn't very good but all is made up for on 'Wan*sta'. Xzibit also makes an appearence with the brill 'spit shine'. D12 are in the great track 'rap game' too!Plus(even though I'm not a fan of him)Jay Z comes in with his good track '8 miles and runnin'. The only dissapointments are the tracks by Macy Gray and Young Zee. No Dr Dre either. But overall this CD is a MUST HAVE for all Eminem/rap fans!
