5.0 out of 5 stars Supremely Supremes, 26 Dec 2002
By Tim from Surrey (Surrey) - See all my reviews

This two CD pack is such a wonderful release from Motown. To listen once more to those fantastic vocals of Jean Terrell singing brilliant lyrics on "Up the ladder to the roof" and to hear the shared lead on tracks such as "Floy Joy" is delightful.

Motown (Harry Weinger)has made sure that none of the Supremes' fans are going to be disappointed with this package. There are numerous alternate takes such as "he's my man" - always a favorite of mine - "automatically sunshine" and included so many unreleased tracks hidden in the depths of those vaults at Motown for many years.

The booklet in this package contains much information - and Mary Wilson - always an extremely popular performer on stage - gives inside information.

When you listen to this 2 CD - you do wonder why Motown didn't promote the Supremes to achieve the success that Jean, Mary and Cindy (in particular) deserved.

Perhaps one day, the Supremes will reform - and show the world just how fabulous they really are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touch, 21 Jan 2003
By Mr. Gary Wilson "Gary" (Sheffield, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This CD release is long overdue, not only does it include tracks never before released but many others were not available on CD. The Supremes didn't end when Diana left Mary kept things going and made some beautiful music, it's about time Motown stopped keeping that a secret! The packaging and sleeve notes add to the overall appeal, those who have read Mary's books may not find much that's new but the information is here in context and add to the appreciation of the history of the group. Personal favourite moments include Touch where Mary's vocals still make me go weak at the knees, the original album version of Stoned Love, running straight on from the previous track and the alternative version of Sha La Bandit, I never knew Cindy had such a great voice! Hopefully the revived interest will lead to the CD release of the original albums most of which have never been available on CD (the same applies to many 70s Motown albums and my records have been worn out for years!)and maybe interest in rare unreleased Motown tracks will extend beyond the 60s! By the way check out the photo from the Floy Joy cover, very classy, until you look closely at the table leg! Every Supremes fan should buy this album and hopefully it will win many new fans

One word describes this = BRILLIANT. I've been waiting years for an album like this. Now I don't have to drag out the vinyl or cassettes. It is nice to see that the 70's group line ups have finally got the recognition that is long overdue. Long live THE SUPREME SUPREMES
