A must-have for any F1 fan!, 6 Jan 2003
It is not often that you hear Murray Walker, the "voice of Formula One", preaching his opinion on who is the best driver of all time, but on this DVD, you can find out exactly what Murray thinks of the big names of the past such as Senna and Fangio, and reigning World Champion Michael Schumacher. The first thing you will be presented with upon loading the DVD is the main menu. Although it is rather sluggish to navigate, it has a nice design, with Grand Prix footage rolling in the background, and the lay out is very simple. You have the choice of watching Murray's top 10 all in one go, starting with ten through to his number one. However, if you wish to get the low down on just one particular driver, you can skip along to him on a timeline-like menu. So, what about the content? Boasting footage that has never been released before is an exciting prospect, and despite the fact that there doesn't appear to be a lot of it, there is the odd gem such as a camera onboard Fangio's car, and a ride with Senna around Monaco on a hot qualifying lap - great stuff! There is plenty of up-to-date archive footage such as Schumacher winning his fifth World Championship, and all the legendary confrontations between Senna and Prost, Schumacher and Hill, all with the man himself commentating. Of course, while the pictures are moving, Murray is narrating and explaining why he thinks such and such a driver is so good, and it really is an interesting and informative compilation. Needless to say, being DVD, the picture and sound quality is excellent, and the additional features you get are are joy to watch. The highlight for sure is Martin Brundle taking Murray for the ride of his life in the two-seater McLaren F1 car. The only reason I haven't given "Murray Walker's F1 Greats" the full five stars, is that I feel it has one or two weak points. As I mentioned, the menu navigation is a little sluggish, which can be frustrating, and a couple of Murray's driver reviews are quite brief, leaving you wanting more. However, for any Formula One fan, this is a definite must-have. Some excellent racing footage plus some fantastic extra features, all presented by the great Murray Walker, makes for an exciting and informative DVD for fans and others alike. I recommend it!
