The Fuji FinePix A204 Zoom Digital Camera is a high-specification, two Megapixel digital camera with 3x optical zoom, 16 MB memory card plus free batteries and charger; all at a very appealing price.

Digital cameras are dropping in price all the time. This latest FinePix A204 Zoom from Fujifilm costs roughly half what an equivalent camera would have set you back a year ago. The chunky A204 has a two Megapixel CCD array for good resolution and a 16 MB memory card to hold the pictures.

This is an xD-Picture Card, a new format from Fujifilm which is about the size of a Multimedia card and set to replace the SmartMedia format Fujifilm has mainly used until now.

Controls on the camera are arranged in three groups. On top are a sliding power switch and a shutter release, with a rotary switch arranged around the shutter button to select record, playback or video modes. At top-right on the back panel is a row of three buttons used for selecting menu options and for zooming in and out. Just to the right of the good quality, colour LCD display you'll find the final three buttons, labelled Display, OK and Back. The menu system is easy to navigate and well differentiated with bright colours.

The FinePix A204 Zoom has a sliding cover which protects its lens, but oddly this isn't linked to the power switch. This means you can have the camera on with the cover still over the lens and the camera off with the lens uncovered--neither combination is good. Images from the A204 Zoom are finely detailed and well-balanced, with natural colours, though a bit over-vivid in bright light.

You transfer your pictures through the supplied USB cable, using Fujifilm's own software, supplied for both PC and Mac. It includes transfer, viewing and photo manipulation applications. Both the software and the camera itself are good value and easy to use. The inclusion of a set of batteries and a charger for gratis makes this great purchase even greater.--Simon Williams

After years of not having a camera or borrowing someone else's, I decided to take the plunge and get a digital one of my own. After doing several hours of reasearch on the internet I finally settled on the Fuji FinePix A204.
I wasn't too concerned with how many pictures it could take in a minute or what the shutter speed was, all I wanted to do with this camara was to take pictures, something that it does wonderfully well.
The FinePix comes with a 16Mb Smart Media card (which I recomend upgrading to at least a 32Mb), rechargeable batteries, USB cable and software.
The Finepix is a very easy camara to get to grips with, and I was taking shots within a matter of minutes. You can even take short (no sound) 20 second video clips as well.
The only two downsides I can see are: 1. If you keep on using the LCD screen and the zoom function the bateries won't last very long and 2. Most of the shots taken in the dark had "red eye" (although with digital photos that really isn't much of a problem as most "red eye" shots can be removed in a matter of seconds by using most paint and photo applications.

To sum up: If you are looking for a digital camara thats very easy to use, takes high quality shots at an affordable price, then I can thoroughly recommend the Fuji FinePix A204!

What more can I say. I have only had this camera for a matter of 6 hours and already, I am getting to grips with it. This camera is very simple to use. It is as easy as point and shoot. The interactive menus within the camera are very simple to navigate and they are easy to understand. The enclosed software is also very easy to use and install on any PC which has Windows 98 or higher.

This camera is going to be very good for any novice photographer.

Excellent small and lightweight digital camera and very easy to use. I was using it sraight away and the quality of pictures is excellent. Plenty of features including red eye reduction, zoom lens, movies facility, auto exposure, etc. Very easy to download the pictures directly from camera to your computer.
The batteries would possibly wear down quickly but the option of buying re-chargeable batteries is a good alternative.
My previous Fujifilm camera had a built-in rechargeable battery which was okay but, if it went flat, I couldn't use the camera until it had been charged up again.
At least with removeable batteries, you can take a spare set with you!
