Simon Pyke is nothing short of a genius. Incredibally technically able, this is a lovely album with some electronica of the highest order. His style of music has been termed 'junk funk' 'super acoustic' and 'freeform'. No other producer (to my knowledge) can create such twisting, ever changing, elastic dynamics and flowing organic rhythms. This album was released after the brilliant "audio tourism" but still, influences from his travels in asia and vietnam can be heard.
There is a very human and organic feel throughtout the album and one is indulged with insights into the strange and bizarre world of Simon Pyke.
This music is great for bus journeys - you'll never get bored of it. There is always something new, a change in the pattern, something to keep you interested. You can go armchair travelling. Big top is the first track, and it's a blinder. If you are bored of the formulated sound of mainstream garbage - why not give this a listen?
