Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Almost as elusive as the act themselves, Twoism has been exchanging hands for anything up to £800 since its original 100 copy vinyl release back in 1995. Available for the first time on CD, re-cut and re-mastered, this near-mythical collection of minimal ambient treasure is as listless, pastoral and evocative as its follow-up, 1998's Music Has The Right Children and this year's Geogaddi. Even more understated than its successors, Twoism drifts with indolent beats and droning keyboard hooks. Hidden away in their remote Hexagon Sun studio in the highlands of north Scotland, Marcus Eoin and Mike Sandison inhabit a reclusive windswept world that is too damn cold to produce chill-out music. What you have here are delicate, deceptively simple, emotive soundscapes that bore right to the heart of the listener and refuse to be ignored. Broken into eight tracks but seemingly one continuous gentle sonic glide, Twoism opens with the mesmerising melancholia of "Sixtyniner" changing course only for "Basefree" with its restless itchy break beat and urban menace. At turns soothing and haunting it stirs feelings of desolation while somehow creating an intensely intimate feel. Laying the foundations for a career that has seen the duo become renowned exponents of blissful organic electronica; Twoism is an essential (no longer missing) link in the acts evolution. --Christopher Barrett

CD Description
Reissue of impossibly rare debut EP by reclusive Scots electronicists, original vinyl copies of which have been known to change hands for up to 800 pounds. Sowing the seeds of theblissed-out, pastoral sound they would develop on their twoLPs to date, 'Twoism' is a worthy addition to their canon and a boon for collectors of this cult act.

4.0 out of 5 stars One for BoC completists..., 29 May 2003

...like me! After snapping up most of the BoC collection already and hearing the 'people bought copies of this for £780 on Ebay' hype, I jumped at the chance to get this. My initial feeling was that I was left a little cold. I was initially disappointed by this, not quite as polished as 'Music....' and having already got some of the tracks featured on their other releases (since there is some duplication with tracks on this and their later releases). I left it sitting around at home, choosing to head into 'Geogaddi' and 'Music...' once again. On dragging this out recently ... my disappointment has subsided! I now find myself in posession of tracks that compliment the bleak mood of 'Music...' well. Not the place to start if this is your first BoC purchase, but one for those who have it all. The mood is melancholic throughout, Plaid-like synths set to blunted beats (although the rumbling Basefree stands out as not your typical BoC track! Growling percussion that doesn't really make sense until the end of the track when it all comes together and you see the true genius behind it). If you just have the two BoC albums to your name so far though, and you're looking for more. Try heading for the 'A Beautiful Place In The Country' EP, 'The Peel Sessions' (purely for Happy Cycling!). For those wanting more BoC style sounds, perhaps check out Plaid's output.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it now!, 5 Jan 2003
By S. Burt "stefan" (bristol) - See all my reviews

The board of Canada are one of my favourite musicians and have been for quite a while, my favourite is this one at the moment but whatever selection they produced you can always find these elements inside of them which covers this album and all their most recent output.

1. Electronic music that actually has personality and charm

2. A semi relaxing array of musical styles focused within electronica but
Wont make you want to smash any pieces of your furniture apart due to sounds that make you feel like your being brain washed and paying for the pleasure.

3. You can always tell that you are listening to boards of Canada tune after having their music your collection there are bands that sound similar but nobody does it quite the same.

4. They have a time less nature about them quite nostalgic but quite futuristic at the same time.

5. Not shy of putting in a bangie sounding tune into the albums when I say this I don’t mean its time to get your glow sticks out or anything like that but a medium paced tune that would quite happily upset your neighbours.

6. All the albums sound like they have been lovely put together with skill and attension I would place them up there with Eno with quality of ideas and sound production.

Well I could go on but if you are thinking of trying something different and like more relaxed and well-produced electronica you could waste your money on other music but why waste time and money...

5.0 out of 5 stars for anyone who likes boc, this will not disapoint, 22 Dec 2002
this "mini album" is essential for anyone interested or has been following boc, this used to be fairly difficult to get hold of - (though not as rare as their really old stuff), so id already downloaded this off the internet before i got it. i feel the atmospheres created here are much more thick and textured than anything youll find in mhtrtc and geogaddi, while not being as complex. i found this appealing and found myself actually being drawn into the music and losing touch with the surroundings, this is the thing i like most about boc and this album highlights everything good about them. iced cooly has to be the must catchy tune ever - fsck roygbiv. distant voice samples in sixtyniner - typical boc - this is another good track. infact there isnt a single track here that i dont love. definately the easiest boc listen and most beuatiful. buy it!!
