Product Description

Product Description

Cossacks is a real-time strategy game that allows players to command vast armies, up to 8,000 units per map, in authentic historical warfare, set between the 16th and 18th centuries.

Featuring over 100 new single-player missions, Cossacks: Back to War offers over two and a half as many levels as its previous iteration. It also introduces two new nations into the battle, Switzerland and Hungary, offering established players totally new strategic choices. There is also a random terrain generator that offers almost infinite replayability, whilst the sophisticated map editor allows players to easily design campaigns to spec. As a bonus, "Mod1", created by one of the game's most ardent fans, is included, offering a further 30 playable maps, with a unique set of units.

For fans of multi-player gaming, Back to War introduces a new VIZOR system, which allows players to watch multi-player games in progress, picking up addition tips from real-life competitors. An Automated Championship System (ACS) promotes individual Cossacks tournaments as well as hosting a worldwide ranking system, which will list the best players in the world.

Cossacks: Back to War will work with the original Cossacks game or as a stand-alone title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cossacks:Back to War - Swiss Rules, 27 Oct 2002
By MT Wynne (Skelmersdale United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Issued as a stand alone for people who haven't bought Cossacks yet, Cossacks:Back to War is slightly dissapointing at first for anyone with the previous add-on and the original. There is only 1 new unit for the Turkish and Algerian civilisations, a camel-riding Bedouin.

There are two completely new nations though. The Hungarians are quite similar to the Austrians with a light cavalry unit early on and pandurs (a type of musketeer). Otherwise there isn't much new with them. The Swiss have some interesting early units, a powerful halberdier who acts like a pikeman but hits harder, and a unique swordsman unit. The Swiss are powerful early on, but the Chasseur (similar to the French one in this and previous versions) unit later on does not make up for the painful truth that this nation is only average later on in a game.

I was dissapointed to see no new campaigns included in the add-on, just the original tutorial, but a large number of single missions should keep you busy. The best bit is the mod which was available for download but is here for those who haven't heard of it or have a slow connection. This completely transforms gameplay and is well worth it.

The Online features are not very different from those of the previous add-on, only adding a way to be a spectator to games and a monthly competition for the top 100 ranking online players. If you are interested in these features you probably have already bought the game anyway.

Lack of content is made up for by good quality and a low price. You can expect to see a lot of Swiss armies marching across online matches in a few weeks time.

5.0 out of 5 stars cossacksreview, COSSACKS MAD!!!!!, 5 Feb 2005
When i first saw cossacks I thoght it looked absolutlt brilliant!!!!!!!!! the graphics were stunning. When i actually got the game I playing on it for ages because you can have massice scale battles with the expasion packs. The first cossacks is good but you have minor battles with your enemey which is good. BUT with the art of war and back to war the battle can be massive huge ginormous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are the features of back to war:

You control all the nations that are in the art of war eurpean wars. and in the expansion there is peace you set it what ever you want, 4 hours at the maximum!!!!!!!! but becarfull because the game can crash with tooooooo may figures on the screen you needa good computer for huge scale battles I have an excellent computer so that is no problem for me. My only negative comment on back to war the art of war is that the men walk out on thre batttle field whenb you don't order them to which is a real pain but overall the game is excellent!!!!!!!! I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS GAME TO ANY RTS FAN. BUT IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
