Best beat'-em'up yet!, 20 Feb 2003
Being used to 3D PS2 beat-'em-ups, I was interested to see what it would be like to go back to 2D for a change. With MvC2 I was not disappointed at all. This game is genuine fun, and sometimes even blows you away! There are no fewer than 56 characters you can pick from (half of them are locked at the start) - all featuring from the likes of Capcom's Street Fighter or Marvel superhero comics. Game modes are the usual arcade, practice or multiplayer. To unlock your characters, you earn points based on how well you do during your fights. Use these points to 'buy' hidden characters, although you can also buy full-screen artwork or different colours for all the fighters. This extends the game's life considerably. At fight level, there are three people per team. One fights at a time, but you can call in each one for an 'assist' where they perform a special move (decided by you at the start of the game). There are plenty of moves per fighter - each one being different and unique. For example Street Fighter's Dhalsim still has his "Yoga Fire", while the Incredible Hulk likes to tear the earth from beneath his rival's feet. There are usually five to eight special moves per fighter, along with punches, kicks, throws, and other unique moves sprinkled in for good measure. The best bit, however, is the Hyper Combos, where all three characters come on-screen at the same time and use their special moves - resulting in a colourful and action-packed display of fists, claws, fireballs, rockets and lasers - again, all unique to the fighters in question. The graphics, although 2D, are good (cartoon-style, obviously). The backgrounds, however, are nicely rendered and beautifully-animated. Sound effects are good, though the speech sounds like it was recorded with a 10-year-old tape recorder. Playability is fun, and as frantic or calm as you decide with the options. This is an all-round excellent fighting game, with very few flaws. Get it!

OldSkool Beat-em up.....they don't make em like this anymore, 27 Mar 2005
If u havent ever played a version of street fighter then u have probably been locked away for the past 20 or so years. i was raised on Street fighter 2 on the SNES wayyyy back now. For people like me, games likes these bring back all the great memories. *sniff* sorry this is really emotional =D this is a game u either love or hate. sure u could argue that graphics like these could have appeared on the GBA, but thats not the point of it. neither is the amount of moves, in the oldskool days gaming was simple, and thats what people loved about it. at the end of the day, ur thumbs may be raw, your mate might have smacked u round the head after you've rinsed him for the hundreth time, and u may even be a bit drowsy after playing the game for so long. The fact is, you'll love every minute of it.

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
After Capcom and Marvel had their little disagreement and this game went out of print its been really hard to get hold of and really expensive. But if you manage to get a copy it is incredible. There are 56 characters, each one is beautifully animated (there are no characters which are just recoloured versions of original characters - the only exception is bone-claw wolverine). Its great to have grudge matches like Venom v Spiderman or Wolverine v Omega Red, Chun Li v Bison, Akuma v Ryu etc. There are air combos, hyper combos, tag fighting and a points system that rewards you with buying new characters , artworks, character colours or stages to fight. Unlike other Street-fighter games has HP/HK and LP/LK and doesn't include MK/MP , but its hard to notice because each character has so many moves to perform. The only set-back is the music (its like Lounge music) and that they didn't include Apocolypse (ultimate Marvel bad-guy), but these are minor problems really. Its a little retro beacuse it is getting older and looks older compared to some 3D fighting games, but its stupidly addictive and with 56 characters to play as - it just keeps going and going.
