The Playhouse & Garden from Berchet is simply a wonderful Wendy/play house that will provide hours of enjoyment for all ages. Although the manufacturer's recommended age is three and above, this reviewer's one-year-old was enthralled and you can imagine the set having play value up to six or seven years.
Made of moulded plastic, the kit comes with easy-to-follow pictorial instructions, making assembly of the house and garden fencing a simple task for two adults. (Two adults are required mainly to deal with the size of the construction pieces--i.e., the roof and house sides.)
The house has a vibrant red roof and green sides with two back windows that can open and close, a front door (bottom half of a stable door) and an additional opening and closing window to the front. To access the garden you enter through a bright yellow swing gate. All doors and windows have bright yellow handles and at the side openings there are two easy-to-fit stripy white and yellow blinds. The house is large enough for several little ones to sit comfortably inside and there's room for two more within the "picket" fence of the garden.
Perhaps the best thing about this house is the attention to detail. The garden comes complete with window box, mini rake and shovel plus three stacking plant pots. Built into the fence of the garden is a yellow bench--ideal for a small bottom or to be used as a table. Within the house there is a telephone and telephone hook, a coat hook and small hooks to secure the blind on windy days! Also included are flower stickers to liven up the fencing.
This is the most delightful and hardwearing of toys. It would withstand many of the rigours of the English weather and bring hours of joy and creative play. --Susie Griffin
