Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this,on the cheap,as it was an Xbox exclusive and it didn't look too bad in some previews I saw of it.
It's an RPG,it has some similarities with Diablo in that it has,for the most part, randomly generated dungeons usually with some theme, poison gas, water etc and you have to find control rooms to unlock the 'boss'room, this means exploring the map, with it's top down view, and battling monsters, shown on the map as flying 'robots'when you connect with them,no random battles unless you count the ones when opening a new door, with your up to five man(woman)team which you create in a way like Phantasy Star, pick a class, choose how it looks etc..it's not as in depth as PSO but it adds a bit of a personal touch.
Battles are automatic and your team fight unless you intervene with a new command, spells or items or fleeing, which I never did as I found it impossible to pull off!?!
There are ten floors each with a boss, the last floor having the preceding nine and the final(?)boss, success opens up floors 11+,which are just floors 1-9 with harder monsters,I say harder, the game really isn't difficult at all and some level grinding pays off in spades.
Why is it overlooked?,the story is largely forgettable/unmemorable and most of the game, there are no cutscenes,is unvoiced, the graphics are very'metallic'funnily enough with most monsters being some sort of robot spider/crab/scorpion/werewolf etc.since combat is automatic it can feel like you're not involved too much.
If you like Diablo/PSO,this feels the same, never knowing what you're doing due to no big story but always wanting to see what's a bit further on..
