There is a warm understated quality at work, so that none of the musical combinations at play sound forced. There's some fine impassioned singing here too and with three vocalists involved, a good deal of variety. Particularly impressive are "Xarit", with its mix of Senegalese instrumentation and the classical piano of the aptly-named "Sarah Class", and the sparse, dubby, "Alla Yo". It's good to hear such enjoyable roots music amongst the first batch of releases on the Beeb's new Late Junction label. --Jamie Renton
