I'm a big fan of Nyman's - I love the rhythmic quality and general down-to-earthness of his music, having first stumbled upon it when watching 'A Zed and Two Noughts' late one night when I was 15 ;)

Both qualities are here in abundance, along with the rude-sounding brassy bits, the strings that sound as if the musicians are running away from bees, the repeated motifs and wow...

I'm not a great opera fan, I have to confess (usually I listen to industrial music, darkwave and techno, some Mediaeval bits and a bit of Baroque too), but the great thing about Nyman's stuff is that it's damned clever without being pretentious, really uplifting and sort of, well, eccentric.

It's an opera with a Microbiologist, the Chief Exec of a Bio-Tech Company, an Art Critic and Goya himself coming back from the dead - highly recommended...
