5.0 out of 5 stars A retrospective that gets it right, 30 Jun 2003

Well, you can read about the virtues of Black Sabbath elsewhere, so I won't tire you with a long rundown of every track on this excellent double-disc.

This is just to say that "Symptom Of The Universe" is one best-of compilation that really gets it right. It collects 29 songs from Black Sabbath's classic Ozzy Ozbourne-period on two discs, and everything most fans will ever need is here (with the exception of "Killing Yourself To Live", which I would have chosen to represent "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" over the instrumental "Fluff").

If you just want one Sabbath-CD in your collection, this is the one. It completely eclipses "Greatest Hits", "We Sold Our Soul For Rock n' Roll" and the various Castle compilations with one exception:
The only one that really comes close is Castle Records' excellent 2000 release "The Best Of Black Sabbath", which features 32 tracks, including a few post-Osbourne songs. But if you just want a really good overview of the band's classic 70s period, "Symptom" is the best choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Symptom of the Universe, 17 Feb 2006

These guys are awsome.I liked Sabbath in the 70's but after seeing them at Ozzfest I was in awe. They are good musicians, they have great chemistry and put on a great show, this CD is one of the best of all time, up there with the Beatles White album
