Synopsis

THE TOMORROW PEOPLE, the classic 1970s sci-fi series, follows the adventures of British teens who have reached the next stage of human evolution and possess super powers. In addition to various telekinetic and teleportation abilities, these children have a secret base called the Lab and a futuristic talking computer named Tim. This collection presents all four episodes of A RIFT IN TIME, in which Stephen (Peter Vaughan-Clarke) becomes caught in a time trap and the remaining Tomorrow People must locate and free him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cardboard Quality At Its Finest, 18 Jan 2003
By Henry J. Walmsley "Henry J. Walmsley" (South UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
OK,... So the five stars rating assumes that you already have an insane penchant for cardboardy Sci-Fi. However, though I saw the later episodes of T.T.P. on telly at the time of first broadcast, this earlier story is new to me. Consequently, there are two distinct reasons for recommending this DVD so heartily.

a) It has an internally consistant story, enjoyable by adults and kids alike which is actually quite interesting and even exciting. They don't make Sci-Fi stories like this any more; There's probably an EEC regulation against it. Even the special effects aren't that awful, assuming that you've already suspended your disbelief enough to ignore the Roman Villa made out of a cornflakes packet being blown up by a slightly dodgy firework from down the newsagent.

b) The commentary surpasses even the previous DVDs in the series by being the funniest piece of witty mickey-taking by the actors involved. I have just had to stop the player for fear of rupture lest Nicholas Young (John in the programme) makes another lightening fast comic remark or Peter Vaughan-Clarke (Stephen) lowers the tone once more in some lewd but highly entertaining, and revealing, fashion.

Anyone who likes old Brit Sci-Fi will enjoy this programme.

Anyone who finds naff chroma key, silvery suits and ropey effects even mildly amusing will be in life-threatening stitches listening to the commentary:)

5.0 out of 5 stars I Never Thought I'd see this show again!, 29 May 2003
By Ms. Judith A. Furnari (Oswego, NY United States) - See all my reviews

I just want to let other Americans like me know that these DVD's do work on every player that I have tried here! I do not have a special DVD player for PAL or region 2 formats. I was so excited to see the Tomorrow People again that I have ordered all of the DVDs. I used to watch the Tomorrow People on Nickelodeon in the early 1980's. I do not recall the earlier episodes in the series so this is a treat. I was in grade school when I first saw the Tomorrow People and I had never seen anything like it. It had such an impact on me that I can still recall the plots many years later. For years I hoped that the Tomorrow People would surface on American TV again. I doubt it ever will. I feel sorry for our children today. There is nothing of quality for them to watch. I recall when Nickelodeon mainly had thoughful programs!

What I enjoy about the Tomorrow People is that it does not insult the intellects of young people. The show deals with History and a lot of interesting issues. I love the clothes. The primative special effects of the 1970's are so much more fun to watch that the dull and refined special effects of today. The Tomorrow People cheer me up on bad days! I think that season two is great. I didn't like Kenny in season one but I did like the Carol character, even if she was a bit annoying.

5.0 out of 5 stars I hope TP does play on USA players, 3 Feb 2004
By A Customer
Reading the review stating that these Region 0 PAL DVDs for The Tomorrow People, will play on a USA player (as stated in review for this DVD) I have ordered a few TP DVDs. I hope that they do play. I'd hate to return the show I've missed for so long. Once I get them, I'll let you know (if I remember to) if the USA can view the TP shows.

Thank you
