If you're a Nina fan, you have to own this DVD.
I've been searching for a Nina Simone DVD for quite some time, but the wait was well worth it. I was pleasantly surprised to find how personal this DVD is. It opens with Nina and her husband driving around her old neighbourhood and reflecting on her life. It's very raw and emotional and will only make you love Nina all the more.
As for the concert footage......it's Nina! C'mon! You know it's great!
The special features aren't as abundant or informative as I would've liked. There's a written bio and discography....nothing you can't find anywhere else, though. There's also a bio note on her daughter, Jet, who has followed her mom's footsteps in a singing career.
Over all, it's well worth the few dollars you'll spend just to own a piece of the amazing talent of a phenominal singer/performer.

This is actually a documentary film about the late, great Nina Simone. The film is an honest portrayal, showing the great diva at her mightiest & also at her most vulnerable. The live concert footage is amazing. Sadly we only get snippets of the songs. A lot of these energetic early performences are presently not available on DVD. So buying this disc is the only way we can witness these truly wonderful & extraordinary moments in her prolific career.
