5.0 out of 5 stars Forget the rest, 11 Jun 2003
By S. Cross "crossman" - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Trust me. I've played 'em all. Every Links ever. Every PGA. I've been a Links fan since day 1 for the graphics, courses and realistic shot options. I've played all the PGA's and always enjoyed the USPGA tour stuff but disliked the simplistic play and poor graphics. I thought Tiger 2001 was useless. I actually uninstalled it within a couple of days.
TW PGA 2003 is damn-near perfect. Ignore the other reviews - you get breathtaking realtime course detail and beautifully recreated players. Simple shot making, fantastic courses (Pebble? Birkdale? Sawgrass? St Andrews? Like you need any other courses ?) Add to this the innovative Career Mode - you start as a hacker laying side bets and work your way up to tour pro via strokeplay, matchplay and skills events plus skills shooutouts (longest drive for a grand ? etc.) Extra shots (punch, flop, power, etc) have to be earned via prize money and lessons and you need 'em to progress. Go to the practice range and you'll get challenged to matches and skills bets for money. Decide which attribute you want to spend your cash on (accuracy? power? putting? etc.). Choice of swing methods - I'm a 3-click man (with shot-shaping), but my 4-yr old son can actually use the mouse swing (without shot-shaping) and give me a game.
I love this game. I just saw 2004 is out and have no idea how it could improve on this, but doubt I can stop myself pre-ordering... maybe you should buy '03 when '04 is out and the price drops, but, like the real game, you'll only wish you took it up earlier...
Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An extremely good golf game, 27 Jan 2003
At last Tiger is back! Thankfully EA have released this game in the UK after deciding in their infinite wisdom not to bother releasing 2002 on the PC over here.
Although not perfect, this game is outstanding.
Here is my breakdown on the game.........

Graphics(95) - All the included courses(12) look fantastic, it's good to see EA/Headgate moving towards a more organic feel, ie. Trees move in the wind, flags flutter in the breeze etc.
The golfers themselves are fully 3D, and are animated superbly.A previous reviwer commented that they don't use photo imaging for golfers faces, good! Photo imaging is something that should be left in the last century, thank god for technological advancement!
You can't help but be impressed by the attention to detail in the game, playing as Tiger, a close up on your ball will show the Nike logo, other golfers Titlist etc - I love it.
The one thing, graphically, that should have been given a bit more time, is the gallerys. They are like cut outs, not good.

Sound(70) - The ambient sounds are what you would expect, smacking the ball off the tee sounds awesome. The commentary is dodgy - it certainly verges on the annoying and is often wrong. It can be switched off, bit for some reason I like to leave it on, it just adds to the atmosphere of the game. If they can get the commentary sorted for 2004 though, I'd be much happier.

Gameplay(93) - 5 different levels of dificulty make this game easy to get into and offers a good challenge on the two hardest settings.
There are many gameplay options, career mode, tour modes, and about 15 different ways to play(Stroke, match, skins, stabbleford etc). I can't comment on the career mode as I have only played it very briefly, as I just stick to Tour Mode on single player.
Playing with a friend on the same PC, or Direct IP play offers the most fun with the game - I am suffering sleep deprevation - as I have been playing my friend in London over the network until the wee small ours, far to often.

Overall - 92% . Buy this game.Please....

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 (PC), 26 Nov 2002
Excellent game. Top graphics. All the courses look fantastic.
Great challenge. Good fun on multiplayer. Career mode is the best part of the game in my opinion.
