Dancing Stage Party Edition

Dancing Stage Party Edition

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Featuring over 50 songs this time around, including contributions from high-profile acts such as Kylie Minogue, Chaka Khan and S Club, Dancing Stage Party Edition is a welcome and expansive addition to the popular dance game franchise. First things first, though: don't even think of trying to play it without a dance mat peripheral--you can tackle the game using the standard PlayStation or PS2 controller, but there's little point.

The game works by throwing up symbols on screen, which indicate where you need to move your feet (or your fingers if you're determined not to get a mat). Effectively it's as simple as that. Consistently have your feet where they're supposed to be, when they're supposed to be there, and your score will be high. Keep messing it up, and you boogie will have a habit of ending prematurely.

The complications are injected when the tempo is upped, and the game demands that you simply move quicker to keep up. But even when the game's sheer novelty factor is exhausted, there's plenty of reason to keep going thanks to the gradually increasing challenge that it presents. And frankly, Dancing Stage Party Mix is as compulsively entertaining as its predecessors. It particularly hits top gear when two players can dance head to head--though this requires two dance mats. Even the fitness-tailored single player workout mode works well.

The game's only real limit comes when you've worked your way through all the songs, and even then it's going to take some time to do that. Aside from that, this is polished, very enjoyable fun that virtually all gamers can warm to. --Simon Brew

Official PlayStation Magazine

"Foot-stomping action every time... spectacular fun with a dance mat. 9/10."

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game but..., 4 Dec 2002
By A Customer
It's a great fun and you will have lots of fun playing this with your friends. I like the addition of having the function of creating a dance routine and the challenge of playing with a 6 arrow dance arrangement instead of the standard 4. HOWEVER YOU WILL ONLY GET THE FULL CAPABILITIES OF THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE A PSOne or PS2 - Konami have issued a statement that if you own the old Playstation, you will only be able to access the standard game mode, solo mode, workout mode, you will not be able to access other menus such as edit mode (create a dance routine), records or even options! So I hope you don't have an old Playstation or you might be better off returning the game and buying Dancing Stage Euromix instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, 19 Nov 2002
By A Customer
This game is a great follow up to Dancing Stage Euromix.
It has more songs and I found that the menus were easier to use.
There are loads of songs incuding S Club 7 Don't Stop Movin' and Kylie Can't get you out of my head as well as other konami originals and remixed songs from Dancing Stage Euromix.
The Workout mode especially is set out better and has a menu which is much easier to use.
For the ultimate dance experience this game is better played with a dance mat which can also be purchased from amazon.

A great dancing experience. Worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Work it baby!!!, 16 Nov 2002
If you're contemplating buying this game, it's probably because you have played the arcade game or Dancing Stage Euromix. It's addictive alright, but does this game match up?
The first thing I noticed was that Konami have changed the format back to the Japanese Version (the Dance Dance Revolution series). Players of Euromix may find it a bit hard to get to grips with but overall its still pretty good and simple to navigate.
The promise of 51 playable songs was another factor which made me buy this game, but a lot of them are off Euromix. On the positive side this game's got a good mix of recent tracks from S Club to the Blood Hound Gang to Chaka Khan!! And there's a fast Afronova Remix and plenty of cheesy 2-unlimited style Japanese trance on there just like the old DDR games. Its a shame that arcade faves like Butterfly, Captain Jack and Boom Boom Dollar didn't make it onto the game but at this price its good value and loads of fun. The calorie burner modes cool and easy to use (watch out your mum will be playin it while youre at school!). There's dance layouts for all ability levels and even a mode where you can create your own dance steps. Plus there's training modes for beginners to refine your technique, and you can have 2 player or dance around two panels yourself if youre good enough!! If you haven't played on a dance mat game before then start now, and if you have then you'll probably be buying this anyway. It's pretty much as you'd expect, no big advances on Euromix but cheap cheesy fun that will get everyone laughing at a party and all your friends will want a copy too in the morning after playing it!!
