Product Description

Synopsis

Archie attempts to turn the Glenbogle Estate into a thriving business but he has to contend with his father and many love interests.

From the Back Cover

Archie has his work cut out if he is to turn the crumbling, debt-ridden Glenbogle Estate into a profitable business which can support his family and the local community. Not only does he have to contend with his ever interfering father and a troubled love life, but Archie also has to deal with the arrival of a hoard of bankers from the estate’s financial backers.

The appointment of a Head Ranger, a rejected grant application, Molly’s gambling debts and Archie’s 30th birthday all threaten to upset the peace in the Highlands. However, it is the tension between Archie and Katrina which adds a certain spark to much of the activities on the estate.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Monarch returns - and is still King, 9 Oct 2002
After a fantatic first series, series two returns us to the magic of Glenbogle, six months on from Justine's return to the estate.
The estate is once again on the verge of ruin, and the eccentric bunch of family and staff must pull together even more to turn it around and save the day.
New arrivals bring new troubles, and the question as to whether Archie will ever find true love is even more prominent.
Richard Briers and Susan Hampshire create even more brilliant scenes, and once again the supporting cast produce a tight performance.
Series two builds on the strong foundations set by series one, and the fun and drama continues as good as ever before, making this perfect family Sunday-night viewing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Monarch of the Glen, 5 Jun 2003
By A Customer
Monarch of the Glen had me gripped from the very first episode! It is a wonderful family comedy and I often laugh out loud at various comments, partcularly from Hector. His facial expressions are hilarious, especially the way he is a bit "slow" on the uptake.
Your heart goes out to Archie as he struggles to make Glenbogle pay its way and even more so when he cannot decide between Katrina, Lexie and various other love interests.
I highly recommend all of the Monarch of the Glen videos to anyone who is looking for a good laugh!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite So Good, 21 May 2003
By Mr. M. Thompson (Hull, East Yorkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After a very enjoyable first series, the second series of Monarch isn't quite so good. It's certainly got its moments and there are two or three episodes which are as good as the first series, but there are also two or three episodes which are only average, giving the series as a whole an uneven feel to it.

However, it's still one of the better light entertainment shows around which you can confidently watch with younger members of the family knowing there'll be no sex or bad language (the childbirth scenes were a bit much though and weren't really appropriate in a show such as this).

Incidentally series 3 is excellent and the best of all.
