CLASSIC CARROT CRUNCHING, 18 Nov 2002
This must be the best cover album of the year.These guys certainly know how to take the p***.Their version of Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me" is about a mile better than the original.All hail The Wurzels.....we are not worthy.

Only 2 words describe this album,ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT, The covers of some of the songs are excellent, especially, Don`t Look Back In Anger, but the one that stands out is the brilliant Shaggy`s, It Wasn`t Me. Other songs that have been Wurzelized are, Blur`s Country House, Catatonia`s Dead From The Waist Down, and BabyBird`s Your Gorgeous. This is not to be missed, as you can just put it in your CD player and leave it on all day, and still be laughing by the end of the day. For those who don`t follow them, bow down and get Wurzelized, as you only live once, and this is NOT to be missed.

I love all the old Wurzels stuff and, especially, the recent remix of "Combine Harvester". But this album is very disappointing. Unlike the original Wurzels songs where they "covered" songs and changed all the lyrics to something funny to do with "life on the farm", this album just features, basically, straight forward covers with no lyric-changes and with usually poor attempts at being funny (animal sound effects, oo-ahhhhs, etc).
The only outstanding, decent track on here, in my opinion, is "Country House" which suits the Wurzels-style to a tee. "Don't Look Back In Anger" isn't too bad, but that's only because it's hard to ruin such a classic.
I don't know why other reviewers here on Amazon are giving such over-rated reviews and ratings for this - maybe it's because they've only just discovered the Wurzels or something.
But to a long-time Wurzels fan like myself, I really expected something funnier and original than this because, let's face it, we really need a band like the Wurzels right now to give the charts a good kicking. The more I listen to this album, the more I wonder why it was recorded in the first place.
Also, for a recent (2002) release, most of the songs date back to specifically 96-99 which gives me the impression that this was originally scheduled for a much earlier release but held back for some reason...(??)
If you really want to hear how good the Wurzels are, go for their "Finest 'Arvest" hits collection instead.
