Unfortunately this DvD is an ace rip-off. First don't expect anything like an objective, historical account of Hitler's life. You won't get it, or anything like it, so forget the title - pure hype. Given the time it was made I suppose we should expect monochrome, but there is no sign of any attempt to tidy up the poor sound-track. The real disappointment is in the peudo-documentary style : real historical footage interspersed with crudely staged scenes meant to ridicule the Nazis, the Third Reich and its claims, and the cult of Adolf - and no attempt is made to distinguish between them. It consists of two back-to-back propaganda films, so crude it makes Goebells' work look artistic. The poor film quality hits home if you have seen the original Triumph of the Will. Clips from this much more sinister offering are 'borrowed' extensively, with a dramatic drop in both effect (being out of context) and quality. In the 1940s people during the war might have been able to swallow this acidulous dross, but today's viewers need more sophisticated fare. What Churchill's propagandists clearly hadn't realised was that the Germans were far better at persuasion than them, and there was little need to falsify events to make the regime look as psychotic as it was : its own actions speak perfectly well for themselves. Goebells is said to have studied assiduously the methods of US advertisers : the British propaganda machine obvioiusly found the Atlantic too wide. Not a DvD I shall watch again.

I bought this DVD as a gift, and we were both hugely disappointed by it's presentation. It is in the form of an old newsreel programme, and thus is woefully out of date and severley lacking in either quality or even of anything of any import if you are interested in the "Real Story of Adolf Hitler". I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, even if you like old style broadcasting, and I would rather this style of presentation had been mentioned in the purchasing info, as I would most certainly not have bought it and thence delivered such a devastatingly disappointing DVD for my partners gift!
