Amazon.co.uk Review
Blessed with a fantastic cast and slick direction by Mike Newell, Pushing Tin is one of those invigorating movies (like Wall Street or All the President's Men) that takes you behind the scenes of a dramatic profession--in this case, the high-stress world of air-traffic controllers--and throws in a source of conflict to ramp up the tension. For ace "tin-pusher" Nick Falzone (John Cusack), that conflict arrives in the form of Russell Bell (Billy Bob Thornton), whose Zen-like control of air traffic immediately puts Nick on the defensive. Add an incident of infidelity and Nick's subsequent self-loathing and guilt and Pushing Tin turns into a macho contest, with Nick's and Russell's spouses (Cate Blanchett and Angelina Jolie, respectively) stuck in the middle.

At that point, this otherwise splendid comedy-drama turns almost fatally silly and hits additional turbulence by lapsing into a predictable series of pat resolutions. Fortunately, the jazzy cast avoids a nosedive into the tarmac, and if you recall Blanchett's Oscar-nominated performance in Elizabeth, you'll be amazed by her flawless transformation into a smart and sweetly devoted New Jersey housewife. Dialogue is a major asset here, and the script (by TV veterans Glen and Les Charles) gives Cusack & co. plenty to chew on. That makes Pushing Tin a breezy good time, and its flaws are easily forgiven. --Jeff Shannon

4.0 out of 5 stars a character driven film with lots of twists and turns in the plot , 14 Aug 2006

Pushing Tin is a film about two air traffic controllers (played by John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton) who compete at everything, from seeing who can hold a burning match the longest to who can get a basketball in the net the most times in a row.And like all their colleagues at work they are not people you would want controlling the airspace above New York in real life! Pushing Tin has many unexpected twists and turns in the plot, humour, romance, happy moments and sad ones, and all in all makes for great viewing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crash, Bang Wallop, 30 Aug 2002
Just think about it... 'Pushing Tin'. This film shows the meaning of its title, generally its about the good fun had whilst being the best airtraffic controller, but then... good old Billy-Bob Thornton and his fantastic real life wife (Angelina Jolie) join in and the tin starts to push itself.

What can i say... 'Watch it', you'll find that you dont know what to think of it. I'll give you the speedy low-down, fantastic acting, great scenes, suspense, boobs, original story and competition. Now the interesting stuff. John Cussack rocks and this just shows how much. Both he and Billy-B take control of hundreds of lives throughout this film and pretty much show us how much fun can be had whilst doing so.

This film is all over the place, but still really easy to follow. It makes exciting Tele and a good anytime film (i.e. watch it alone, or with a room full of mates). Its full of intelligent conversations and jokes, but still has the all american 'im better than you' sort of atmosphere.

Confused... I was it took me months to decide wether i like this or not, during this time i watched it loads of times and finally decided that it rocks. Also if anyone who has seen it, could tell me if that really happens, when you play chicken with a plane, I would be very grateful. See this buy this do whatever you must to get the ideas this film portrays into your previously virgin mind!
