I really enjoyed this movie, and would eve go as far to say it's Wilson Tong's best work. I like his work at Shaw Brothers but this film shows off his skill at producing fast paced action. This version is in it's original form (Cantonese Language, Uncut and in Widescreen). If you can put up with the on-screen subtitles then your in for a treat, good fight scenes and some famous faces to boot, not bad...

This film has GREAT fight sequences expertly choreographed. The actors are nimble and athletic. Kun's technique is particiularly aesthetic and he demonstrates a slick interpretation of the snake fist style.

The non-fight scenes are only slightly tedious with enough comic elements to be interesting the first time around (after the first couple of viewings feel free to hit fast forward button). The obligatory Master-training-student sequences are brilliant, again, marred only by the occasional editing/photo snafu.

A drawback of this video is the lack of English dubbing, but worse, that the sub-titles are in both Chinese and English at the bottom of the screen which creates a muddle. You have to be a real eagle eye to catch the words. I had to watch the movie several times through to figure out the dialog. But having said that there is something really cool and authentic about the Chinese voice track., and of course I had every intention of watching the movie many times anyway, that's why I bought it.

Something that you almost discussed about a Kung-Fu movie is the soundtrack and sound effects, both of which surprisingly are pleasantly and tastefully done. Incredilby, one of the most exquisite fight scenes (Kun's first encounter with some gang members after mastering the snake fist) takes place at night with the bad guys dressed in ninja black. This scene is best viewed at night or with the shades closed. I easily rate this film's fight scenes on par with any of Jackie Chan's classic films such as Drunken Master or Snake in Eagles Shadow. Er... American Ninja, Van Damme and Karate Kid devotees need not apply.
