Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Sega Soccer Slam may mention the beautiful game in its title, but you'll not find any competition here for the FIFAs or Pro Evolutions of this world. This is pure arcade football: loud, colourful, completely unrealistic, yet so much fun. Gameplay is simple: 3-a-side fast footie action. You can head, dummy, sliding tackle, shoot, pass and conjure some quite unbelievable super-special shots using button combos and shot gauges. The pace is frenetic, with most games being tense 9-7 affairs. The football action plays really well.

The game is similar in style to Virtua Tennis in concept, though a lot less serious. Modes of play are standard: Arcade, Tournament, Quest etc; play out the Quest mode and the similarity to the aforementioned tennis title is clear. You select one of 6 pre-set teams based on continent and elemental power. Fire, water, toxic, spirit, electric and ice form the special powers that each team can unleash on the pitch.

Teams are taken on in a round-robin style league with a special challenge offered to you after each match. The challenges are fun and in the style of Virtua Tennis; complete each one and you'll be given cash to spend in the obligatory shop, where you can purchase kit upgrades, new grounds, game artwork and more. Win the leagues and you'll be able to unlock extra hidden teams. Other game modes allow you to create a personalised super team and unlock more characters.

The game's graphics are excellent and each player is instantly recognizable with great animations and detail. The stadia are well animated and the sound effects are vibrant. The game oozes Sega quality. All in all, Sega Soccer Slam is ideal for those less serious sessions and for pick-up-and-play gaming. --Laurent S Hall

Edge Magazine
"With unlockable arenas and game modes there is much to enjoy, especially in the four player game."

5.0 out of 5 stars SPECTACULAR !, 30 Sep 2002
Football games on the whole are all very similar dont you think?
You get your Fifa's which are generally considered to be an "arcade" style of the game and we have the Pro Evolution's of this world which are always the most realistic representation of the beautifull game. Well Sega have just created their very own style of football game.... think NBA Jam only with the players using everything but their hands! This game is fantastic.
I have owned the game on a US import for a while and I am still not bored of it. The graphics are fantastic, each player is animated to a near disney standard and the voice acting is nothing short of amazing. The game is exactly as you would imagine, fast, frantic, funny and fun.
You would think as this game is so over the top, that it would not play like a football game should, but it does, the ball physics are great and the game flows beautifully. The game has plenty of modes for the single player, it has tournament modes, league modes and also a " quest " mode which is great so I won't spoil it for you! As a multi player game this cannot be beaten, grab three mates, a few cans and settle down for a winner stays on night of great gaming! You will not regret buying this gem of a game( apart from the fact you will not want to leave the house!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 18 Oct 2002
This is definately a game you will want to own even if you don't like traditional sport games. The game is loosely based on 4 a-side soccer. the idea is the same, tr and hit the ball into the back of the oppositions net, but you can now tackle people with more than just your feet!
The action is fast, frantic and very arcade but, thankfully, this still leaves pleanty of room for you to come up with different tatics. It plays like a dream, all moves are easy to pull off, but you'll still need skill and creativity to score.
There are plenty of game modes, challenges and a couple of mini games too. Enough to hold your attention for a long time, plus you have extra teams, extra players, extra stadiums, player specific items and bonuses like design artwork etc to collect.
The graphics are fantastic, and as already said on one of these reviews, almost disney cartoon quality. The facial animation and lip-synching is fabulous! With so much going on, including a real proper 3d crowd, massive detailed textures and the excellent player models, you'd expect the frame rate to drop...but i guarentee you that this game really does maintain a steady 60fps. There is no juddering, no slow down, no skipping of animation frames. Its wonderful!
The sound has also had the same attention applied to it as the rest of the game. Thankyou SEGA for hiring proper voice actors as they are genuinely funny, maintain excellence throughout the game and help you believe in the characters (no matter how crazy they may be)
Overall this is probably the most polished game for the NGC i've played. Its another fantastic demonstration of the quality of game that can be produced for the console. Buy it, you won't be disappointed at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slammin', 27 Dec 2003
This was one of the 1st Gamecube games I acquired and is still a favourite. It is a "cartoony" 4-a-side football game and very slick, fast and playable with great characters and corny yet amusing commentry. The thing that I really like is that although fast and simple, there is skill involved - through balls, crosses, one-twos etc. are all a part of a winning strategy. The single player is quite challenging with lots to unlock but as expected it comes into its own with multiple human players. I've been disappointed with other so-called "top-rate" multiplayer games (e.g. NHL Hitz, Mario Kart DD) but this always gets one more go and I think it is an underated Gamecube gem. For the current Amazon sale price of a tenner a real bargain too. If you like footie but fancy some mad high scoring comic action for a change from Winning Eleven/Pro Evo this is a perfect game.
