I can still remember how I discovered this LP, an advert on my local radio station Birmingham BRMB one evening in 1978 whilst doing A-Level homework. At the time I was into Bat out of Hell, Camel, Rick Wakeman, Genesis, Utopia, Louis Clark, Renaissance, etc.

This concept album was never a hit but it has got some great tracks, that all still stand the test of time, Featuring Meatloaf on the last track "Keeper", if you like Meatloaf and haven't heard this then you are missing one.

Other guest vocalist are Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi of Status Quo, Annie Haslam of Renaissance, Ben E King, Rod Argent, Dave Cousins of the Strawbs.

It's a great "prog rock" concept album, art work on the sleeve notes is amazing. Great arrangements, well worth discovering.

Released in 1977 the Intergalactic Touring Band was a concept album of sorts put together by Danny Beckerman and Wil Malone.

In truth this sort of album was starting to become redundant as punk was banging at the door. The sad thing is that this album is a thoroughly entertaining album and features the talents of an amazing array of well-known musicians. Amongst those taking part are Annie Haslam, Rod Argent, Meatloaf, Ben E King, Arthur Brown and Quo's Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt.

Stellar cast eh?

Quite simply the story starts in 2000 and ends up in 3035 and concerns a band called the Intergalactic Touring Band that travels between the planets and galaxies entertaining the inhabitants of the galaxy. Hey it was the seventies remember. Whilst the plot is thin (even after reading it a number of times I have no idea what it is about) the performances and the musicianship is first class and the songs also are well constructed and stand up to repeat listening. My favourites are The Annie Haslam performance on Reaching out and Rod Argents performance on Silver Lady.

Elsewhere we have the usual over the top performance from the wonderful Arthur Brown on Universal Zoo.
I have to own up and admit a liking for this album and I'm sure that anyone with a liking for or a leaning towards progressive rock will also find much to enjoy.
