4.0 out of 5 stars Good off-roading game, 11 Jun 2003
This is a very good game, it actually shocked me, i was expecting a very average game but it wasnt:

Graphics: 9/10
Extremly good but there are a few flaws like the wheel disappearing in to the wheel arch when the cars hits a big bump but you hardly notice it. Weather(rain etc..) is recreated very good and the vehicles lights are decent not blocky like some other games but smooth attenetion has been paid to theses minor but noticeable effects.

Sound: 8/10
The engine sounds are good as are the skid noises when your vehicle comes to a stop quickly or sets off quickly resulting in wheel-spin. The music, well, its ok i suppose, the usually light techno repetitive sound. Water sounds fairly realistic when yopu enter or leave it.

Gameplay: 7.5/10
The vehicles do handle well and the weight realism is there, you cant go charging up a mountain at 100mph the vehicle will slow down, even to crawl sometimes. AS for races and such the AI is pretty intelligent and gets wise to your attempts to spin the other car or cut on the inside which is hard enough as it is on a mountain! there are missions which are my favorite part of the game which you do on your own, these include finding a downed plane and rescuing the pilot going to a remote villlage etc...

Controls: 5/10
Big letdown the problem iv got is that the controls make the steering and acceleration harder than it sould be, you cant use x button to accelerate normally under any control settings steering and acceleration is done with the analouge sticks, which are not my favorite things to use so it might be better for somebody who does like them

Miscellaneous:
You can buy all different parts for your vehicle(of which there are 150+) there are around 130 real name parts to upgrade your chosen truck with some make a difference, some are only there for appearance but all are good. You can purchase a winch to get you out of sticky situations although i haven't found much use for it, due to the vehicle reset function.

Overall: 8.5/10
Very enjoyable but lket down somewhat by the controls a worthy addition if you are a driving game fan and want an off road game.

3.0 out of 5 stars The best 4x4 by far???, 14 April 2003
No. In a word. If you like off road action, buy GTA Vice City, find a rancher and go play on the beach. The controls are not too bad, but the handling is a bit weak. I'd look at what else is available before buying this.
