Amazon.co.uk Review

Medal of Honor returns to its console roots with this first outing on next-gen machines for Lt Jimmy Patterson. This time the setting is June 6, 1944--D Day and beyond--and the game begins with you storming the beachhead at Normandy. Frontline definitely lives up to its name, and from the outset the action is intense. As you rush up the shingle, comrades falling beside you and artillery ringing in your ears, you'd be forgiven for thinking you were on the set of Saving Private Ryan. Players of the PC incarnation will recognise this mission from Allied Assault, but here is where the similarities end; Frontline is a new game with new objectives and levels designed perfectly for the console.

If you survive D-Day you enter the real meat of the game--Operation Market Garden (Arnhem). From scuttling a U-boat to clearing checkpoints in the town itself, the missions are brilliantly designed. The true playability of the Medal of Honor series is how immersive it is: narrative, graphics and sound all combine to give you one of the most gripping first-person shooters on any format. Backgrounds are beautifully detailed, and the sound really sets the game apart. The control system is also intuitive, with the option to customise your controller or choose one of the two default options: MOH Sharpshooter (two analogue stick-control) or the original controls used in the PSone's Medal of Honor.

There are only two criticisms that can be levelled at the game. Firstly, the artificial intelligence errs on the stupid side, with enemies standing around watching comrades get shot, and although this changes with the difficulty level it never responds in a particularly "human" way. Secondly, you can only save at the end of a mission (always a feature of console conversions), so it's quite frustrating to be unceremoniously dumped right back at the beginning after battling you way through a level--but hey, this is war, after all, and these are small niggles about what is a genuinely phenomenal game. Sign up now: the Allies need you. --Kristen Bowditch--This review refers to the PlayStation 2 edition

Product Description

Medal of Honor: Frontline, the franchise's GameCube debut, features 20 levels of gameplay spread across six major missions, all based on real World War II events and all adding up to one complete and uninterrupted story line.

The game includes detailed German, British and American troops and Dutch civilians, all with full facial expressions and lip synch. More than 20 authentic WWII weapons include the Colt 45, Springfield sniper rifle, Panzerschreck rocket launcher, MG42 mounted machine gun and the Browning automatic rifle. Enemy vehicles include Panzer and Tiger tanks, trucks, motorcycles with sidecars, and armoured railway scout-cars. There are also player-driven motorised railcars, trains and mine carts.

Advanced enemy AI requires you to consistently vary your attack strategy as the situation dictates--go it alone for the utmost stealth or work as part of a highly trained military unit to wreak havoc on the enemy. The game offers intense non-combat scenarios as well, such as a disguised, weapon-less infiltration of an officers' pub brimming with Gestapo to make contact with a Dutch Resistance operative.

4.0 out of 5 stars FRONTLINE ROCKS!!!, 14 Nov 2004
By A Customer
MOH Frontline, like most other games, has its flaws, but is still a fantastic game. It has a very well thought out single player, with other 15 missions and a cracking storyline too. The music is great, and matches the missions well and the graphics are excellent too.

Like I said earlier though, the game does have its flaws. The people at EA haven't really concentrated on the multiplayer aspect of this game; it seems way too rushed and is a ngreat shame as usually the multiplayer is the most fun part, and should have been great for a game like this.
Also the controls are a bit twitchy at times because there is no auto aim whatsoever, but it really doesn't make the game worse.

Overall,in my opinion, this game really does rock. It may not be the best game to buy now for the cube, especially because there are a number of great FPS's coming out, like Call of Duty Finest Hour and Goldeneye Rogue Agent, but if you want a cheapish FPS which has a great single player definately GET THIS!

4.0 out of 5 stars Medal of Honour, 19 Jan 2003
This game is a very good one, and, although I wasn't there, seems very realistic. From the moment you run up on the beach on D-Day, with the shells going off beside you, you pick up the pace of this amazing WWII replica.
The graphics are not what I've come to expect of the GC so far, and it looks more like a PC.
The gameplay is very good, and pretty obvious too. But it really doesn't have the same spark of TimeSplitters 2 or 007:Nightfire - they are both in the Premier League unlike MOH:F.

This is a short and simple review letting you now that Medal of Honour is not really all that exciting, although it is very good. NOT a must for fps fans.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, not great, 22 April 2003
I'm going to keep this brief cos the other guys have rated this title fairly well. The game is good and quite atmospheric but at times things are too obvious and lack imagination. But it’s a nice change from the usual frantic killing sprees on other games. The multiplayer is terrible since players can only slowly walk around. This makes it about as intense as playing with a pink balloon. It would be a good game for sniping your mates if they couldn’t see your screen, so me and a friend devised a border so we couldn’t see each other, but it still wasn’t all that exciting. Basically, this is a nice game. The key word being 'nice'. My advice is get time splitters 2 because I've been playing it for over 4 months and I still love it.
