The global success of Belgium's Euro-pop artists Ian Van Dahl and Milk Inc, and the continued Belgium adoration of Kim Wilde, explains a lot about the style of Some Things. Like their peers, as well as Lasgo having the knack to produce addictive pop cuts, lead singer Evi has a strikingly similar voice to Wilde's, with the synth sound of the album drawing heavily on Kim's 1984 LP "Teases and Dares". Other 80s stars who also liked tinkering with their Roland's are subtly quoted on the album too, for instance the Thompson Twins ("Follow You"), Depeche Mode ("Blue") and A-Ha ("Cloud Surfers"). While Evi provides the vocals to the majority of the tracks, fellow group member David takes the lead on "Cry" and "Don't Belong To You". There are two instrumentals as well, the Giorgio Moroder inspired opener "Intro", and the "Take on Me"-with-added-bagpipes track, "Cloud Surfers". While no Euro-pop artist to date has ever been able to come up with anything more than catchy cheese for lyrics, the excellent keyboards successfully distract you away from the traditionally mindless verse. More poppier and a lot less pretentious than the work of other 80s electronica impressionists such as Fischerspooner, Some Things is one of those rare, half-decent Euro-pop albums. --John Galilee
