Drive like a maniac, feel the speed !, 21 Nov 2002
This is adrenalin pumping driving at its finest. Firstly, the graphics are awsome with beautifully rendered cars and fantastic textured scenery. Electronic arts have been making racing games for quite some time, so there is no reason why they shouldn't make good use of the Xbox's hardware. Luckily, in this case they have. To make a racing game enjoyable, you need to be able to see deep and wide into the distance scenery, to tear around the corners at high speeds, hit things and still make good progress. NFSP hotpursuit 2 satisfies immensely by giving you an alround driving experience that has had proper playtesting, and doesn't leave you frustrated, like many other racing games can. Therefore, this game is pure racing and not simulation. My only gripe is the slight occaisional slowdown of frame rate when things get busy, but it is not enough to cause any disappointment.Whereas some other racers try to be as realistic as possible, this is just pure fun. There are various game modes, from a straightforward single race to a championship or Hot pursuit with police vehicles. Major brands of cars are available such as BMW, JAGUAR, FERRARI etc and with a wide variety of tracks and challenges, there is enough here to keep you busy for quite a long while. Due to the highly enjoyable buzz factor in this game, what you have here is a piece of software you will likely pick up and play again and again. This is one racing game that will keep me coming back for more and will stay in my collection. This is fun, Buy it, and buy it today!

Do ya feel the need?...well do ya??, 9 Nov 2002
I was wary about geeting this Xbox version of Need for Speed as various reviews I'd read all say the PS2 version was better (which is unusual as the Xbox version of a multiformat release like this one is often the best in terms of graphics/sound and/or content eg.Spiderman,Turok, Colin McRae, Medal of Honour et al.)I've played the PS2 version so was quite harsh in judging the Xbox version against its PS2's counterpart. Graphically, it compares well in the graphics and sound department to the PS2 version, although its nothing special by Xbox standards (Witness Rallisport Challenge, Project Gotham Racing for a hint of the Xbox's graphical capability) Despite the average graphics, theres a good look and feel to the cars and game overall. The gameplay is on a par with the PS2's and is DAMN GOOD FUN, theres a great thrill to be had outrunning cops (or even playing as one, pursuing speeders), theres also a large variety of cars and tracks to be had, theres loads of 'hidden' shortcuts and side roads to fly down as you evade cops and try to get ahead of the other cars racing against you Great gameplay and longevity and one or two player fun make this an excellent game. Only the fact that it could have looked sooo much better prevent 5 stars. However you look at NFS is a great game - RECOMMENDED.
