4.0 out of 5 stars Polyphonic is the way of the Future, 3 Sep 2002
By J. S. Whatley "whatleydude" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This phone is great. It has to be said. Only a slightly diffent shape on the 33 series and lighter too. It has GPRS permanent free online connection, (you only pay for what you download!. If you are accustomed to nokia products then you know what options to expect.. but more too. If you're new to nokia products then this phone has it all. Reminders, alarm and, (one of my favourite features), several number per name entry. IE: If you have lots of numbers for one person then you can store them all under the on entry, including-address details and emails too!
Polyphonic Ringtones are pretty good too! The rehashed old ones are good but the phone comes into its own when you begin downloading whatever Polyphonic tone you want! FREE! Its Great...
Problems I've come across: If you don't 'clear the cache' on the GPRS memory regularly then the phone tends to turn itself off while you're surfing the wap. Also.. whilst the polyphonic tones ARE good, they are unfortunately not very loud. The phone does Vibrate when it rings as well but surely the polyphonic ringing should be heard when you're walking down the street.

But, that aside, I am v.happy with it and I'd reccomend it without blinking! Be cool.. Get the cool phone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Every silver lining has a cloud, 13 Dec 2002
Its probably wrong to start with the conclusion, but many people won't want to read all the techno babble, so first things first: as an all round purchase, the 3510 on the O2 Pay and Go tariff from Amazon is a sound investment, although spares, facias and extras are a little difficult to source. Amazon retail the phone as cheap as I have seen it anywhere. My wife uses her 3510 in the car in the UK as her emergency phone, and I travel abroad a lot and use mine in a similar fashion, with some infrequent business use thrown in. Coverage is pretty good and it works in most European and Asian countries. Call costs are reasonable and the phone features are trademark Nokia through and through. The phone does exactly what the advertisements say it should. The on-board polyphonics are soon boring, but there are plenty of sites to get compatible downloads from. Phone covers (facias) are sill relatively rare, but once again I managed to find around twenty or so different ones by searching the net. Having tried several types, I believe Nokia phones are the easiest to use, but I must point out that the Nokia 3510 is a quiet phone, which I suppose is deliberate to prolong the battery life. Personally I like a disceet ringtone. Back to the subject of battery life, I did a careful battery charge/depletion/charge routine when I first got the phone and the battery now easily lasts long enough to find my frequently lost charger. Throw in a few phone calls every day and the battery still performs OK... For the techno geeks like me, the phone doesn't have an on board modem, but I can still use it with my laptop using a data cable and the laptop's own modem. It is very slow in this mode. (In real terms it is about four times as slow as a standard land line 56kbps rate). All in all, even with the minor flaws I'd still buy another (and probably still from Amazon) - forgive the oxymoron, but the Nokia 3510 is so cool it's hot!

4.0 out of 5 stars amazin with few let downs, 11 May 2003
By A Customer
i purchased this phone not long ago and loved all of its many features, it was quite cheap on the internet and i decided to give it a try. it was AMAZING !!!! the only let down was that there was no composer which really annoyed me, this phone is worth the money and is great for all types of people but bear in mind that there is no composer for recieving ringtones for free. the polyphonic ringtones are outstanding and take your breath away, it has WAP, amazing games , picture messaging and many many more.......
