Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Photoshop Elements 2 sits between Photoshop and PhotoDeluxe and is ideal for anybody with a serious interest in digital imaging. It offers particularly good hand-holding for beginners. Photoshop Elements is essentially the most widely used parts of Photoshop with tweaks to the interface to make them easier to use. It's designed mainly for retouching digital photographs, but has a number of natural media brushes too, so you can create your own images from scratch.

The key features of the program: the amount of assistance offered and the friendly nature of the interface. While there are many more tools available than in, say, PhotoDeluxe, the comprehensive help system and the Recipe Palette work together to provide an easy way into common tasks. These include retouching images, preparing them as Web graphics and sending pictures as e-mail attachments.

New additions to version 2 of Photoshop Elements start as soon as you choose to open a graphic file. The file browser now shows thumbnails of all readable files and provides details of their type and size. Double-click a thumbnail to open the file.

The Palette Well is a box set into the Shortcuts Bar that contains five separate, tabbed palettes, for things like filters and layers. Click on any tab and the palette detaches to float over the work area--click again and it re-docks in the well.

New tools include specialist facilities for varying colours to bring the best out of photos and new ways of producing finished images. It now provides an image stitching tool called Photomerge and a way of grabbing single frames from common video types, like MPEG, AVI, WMV and QuickTime.

Improved tools for creating Web images, include the ability to create Web galleries of your photos and automated adjustments which you can use to make photos suitable for Web transmission and display. Photoshop Elements 2 is ideal for the enthusiastic amateur or base-level professional graphics artist, who needs to work quickly and easily with photographic images. --Simon Williams

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Partner for Digital Photographers, 26 Sep 2003
By P. F. Barrett "paulbarrett12" (Hexham, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Elements is often characterised as a cut down version of its big brother Photoshop 7.0 but if that makes you wonder whether it might be lightweight, then relax. If there's anythng missing, it's hard to think what it might be. I have used only a fraction of the functionality and, so far, Elements has been able to do everything I want to manipulate my digitial photos and has even allowed me to scan and fix a damaged but much loved photo for which the negative was lost.

It may be called 'Elements' but that understates the level of functionality available. For image manipulation I'd doubt you'd want anything else. And if, like me, you have a a fascination for the big wide world, then the Photomerge capability is, by itself, good enough reason to buy the software. Be warned though, if you don't already have a printer that can handle panoramic paper, you'll soon be buying one.......

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!, 13 Mar 2003
I think photography is my passion but I have it on no less an authority than my poor, long suffering wife that it is, in fact, an obsession. Owning 27 cameras would seem to support that view, I suppose. Dangerously close to 50, I have been taking photographs since I was 12.

Having long since moved into the digital age, I have tried any number of software packages to help me get the best from my efforts behind the lens. Many were dire; some were OK; some just plain odd. And then I bought Photoshop Elements 2.0 and, as they seem to say on all those shopping channel adds, "it changed my life!". Well, almost!

Elements is absolutely packed full of features that are essential or at worst, useful. The program is easy to use, highly intuitive and fun to use.

It also has quite a few automatic processes that can do the adjustments without your help or you can make those changes yourself, incrementally, if that's your thing. Then point is, novice or seasoned pro, this package will meet your needs.

It's big brother, Phoroshop 7.0 costs over £500 and I cannot, for the life of me, think what it contains that would justify such a huge difference in price.

Photoshop Elements 2.0 is a first class product at an incredible price. I defy any serious photographer to challenge that statement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Into Digital Photography Get Photoshop Elements 2, 14 Jan 2004
By wicket2005 (England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
I trial versioned both this and Photosuite, read extensive reviews of digital photography software and without a doubt Photoshop Elements 2 came up to be the best everytime.

It has an extremely easy interface to use which is very clear. You can carry out the simplest improvement to your photo eg remove red eye or be more complex in your designs eg like work on several photos/designs/text all to be incorporated into one photo. This is called layering, a bit like having a new sheet of paper for every new photo/text/design you add, different effects can be added to that page without altering the other images on other layers. Once you are happy with the design all the layers are joined together to make one photo. It does sound a bit complicated but it is so easy and allows you to produce really interesting photo collages or front covers for projects.

The program comes with loads of filters. Filters are effects you simply drag onto your photo, eg change your photo to look like any type of art. There is also a very handy 'help file' that gives you step by step instructions on how to do various projects.

All in all a most for anyone thinking of purchasing a digital photography program, I certainly would recommend it to anyone.
