5.0 out of 5 stars All the best on one album, 10 Sep 2005
By D. Meyer (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This album really lives up to its title. This is a great introduction to one of the archetypal Punk/hippie anarchist rock bands. All the great tracks are here. Take a listen to the soaring proto Punk of 'The Snake' their first single (what a way to start!) and remember this was some 5-6 years before Punk established itself. The tracks are in the wrong order release wise but who cares this is anarchy innit? If you liked Paul Rudolphs soaring solo on 'the Snake' take a listen to 'Uncle Harry' and you'll see why Eno asked him to appear on his first album 'Here come the warm Jets' Sonically different or what? 'city Kids' is another classic from the second phase Fairies ( Paul Rudolph had left and Larry Wallis stepped in ). Larry then went of to play in the very first incarnation of Lemmy's Motorhead. The Fairies used to set up outside paid festivals to create their own alternative free festival -the spirit of this band had an immense influence on future developments in rock music in the UK check this album and see what you missed!

4.0 out of 5 stars do it!!, 5 Feb 2008
By Steve Redman (london, england) - See all my reviews
cool,a comilation of the fairies greatest hits "erm no!
but a good selection from the hippest uunderground band this side of the west way.
the fairies were my first awakening to the hippie /post punk underground real rock music squat culture drug's and things that made you go pop in the night?! where i got into them around 1975 as i lived in acton ... why not check out my biog "people call ya crazy when ya talk like that" by steve redman and you can read for yourself a fans insight into all things rock/punk/hippie/biker etc,etc surrounding the west of london circa 1975-1990 and here youll see the influence that bands such as this had on us back then.
as for the songs on this compilation... cool, i think anybody being a fan of the fairies will no doubdt have there very own fav's but i think they got it right with this selection maybe a few more wouldnt have gone a miss but hey ho this will do for now.....
so "dont think about it buy it"!
