Why do I only give this 4 stars? Well I've just reviewed Cesar Pedrosa and Bamboleo, and I can't give fives to everyone.... This album is by the new all-stars band to come out of New York, featuring such notables as Jimmy Bosch. I've heard them described as the new Fania All Stars. Certainly it's solid stuff, played with great talent, but perhaps that's going over the top. It's great to listen to and great to dance to. However, it would be nice to hear something new instead of covers of old songs, no matter how popular they might have been. The band seems a success, so no doubt another album will follow. It's going to be interesting to see how that develops.

I've been listening to this album every week for a few months now and it keeps revealing new details. I'm not concerned about seeking out previous versions because these recordings are so good. The album is worth buying if only to get hold of La Musica Es Mi Vida and Llego La Banda. Oscar Hernandez nails the piano melodies and clearly has a gift for arranging and directing the orchestra. Tight arrangements, punchy vocals leaping out of the speakers and some great solos. Highly recommended for anyone who is getting into NY salsa music.
