First off, this is of course NOT the famous choral work by Carl Orff. These are reconstructions of the medieval songs on which Orff's work was based.

This is the second recording where two ensembles, Unicorn and Oni Wytars, have combined forces for Naxos. The other was the Troubadors disc. Unicorn sound a little more earthy (like the old Clemencic Consort recordings) than the more recent "definitive" recording of Carmina Burana on 4CDs by Philip Pickett, but what you get here is a lively sampling of the manuscripts.

As in all the recent Unicorn recordings on Naxos (Agricola, Dufay, Black Madonna, Codex Faenza, Troubadors) full texts and translations are included. (The earlier Alfonso el Sabio and On the road to Bethlehem CDs were missing texts).
