Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Housed in its neat metal box, Fabric 06 features Canadian DJ Tyler Stadius, spinning out a stripped-down mix of X-ray beats, throbbing with monomaniac intensity. Stadius was born in Toronto, but grew up in Portugal, raiding his father's record collection while still a tot. By 1992, he'd shifted back to Canada, running his Romper Room residency in Vancouver. Lately, Tyler loves to play at London's Fabric club. He's poised with a skeletal pulse, forever hinting at some kind of trouncing release, but keeping us waiting for most of the duration while subtly building the tension. Tyler's spiralling event horizon is teeming with ghostly echoes, vocal snatches fed in from the outskirts, wafting over metallic snicks and muffled kick-drums. Flooded basslines pulse to a marching motion, a single-minded stomp that's infected by 70s disco and 80s robotics, trimmed with Latino percussion. It's like a perverted aerobics class. Stadius repeatedly returns to DJ Buck and Jay Tripwire, with the latter's "All the Swine" signalling a meaner, harder climax, swiftly followed by the horny gasps of his "Allnight". Nothing lets up then until the closing "King in My Empire", featuring the lightly-sugared reggae vocals of Cornell Campbell. --Martin Longley

4.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to dub disco!, 7 Oct 2003

Well, its a surprise that no-one has commented on this little beauty! Maybe its because Mr Stadius isn't one of the most well known DJs on the block, especially in the company of Francis, Marsh and Richards. If you've overlooked this Fabric mix you've made a mistake because its a joy. Tyler mixes up a storm of gritty bassy house grooves from the likes of tech house bods fave Jay Tripwire & DJ Buck, latin tribal drum heroes Chus & Cellabos and the quality house grooves of Grant Dell & Gareth Oxby.

What starts off a very very deep mix, Tyler builds you from the ground up ... deep deep house grooves applying the philosophy that you don't have to have alot of BPM's to have that dancefloor groove-ablilty. Get lost in the dubby house journey that is Look Behind Your Eyes, the bass led trippy house tracks of Jay Tripwire. The grit and thump value ups subtly and effectively as you progress through the mix so that by the time you're lost in the latin funk and fantastic progressive breakdown of Deep Architecture, you'll notice that your feet are tapping away. And I defy anyone to sit still while the crunchy drums of Loud Kissin' are working away.

This is one Fabric CD you need to have in your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality, 25 Jun 2004
By Phurge (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews
Canadian Tyler 'T-Bone' Stadius came to prominence in the early 90's, educating the underground scene of Vancouver to House music. His style on the decks consisting of reggae, funk, hip-hop, acid jazz & house prompted him to open his own night and as such his first residency, the Romper Room, in 1992. His popularity soared and he was touted as the finest House DJ from Vancouver, a reputation that was to land him gigs at clubs such at The Shelter & Red Dog in Chicago, Back to Basics, The Rex in Paris, Space at Bar Rhumba and Fabric just to name a few. Well its time for Tyler to educate us once more about house music, and this comes in the shape of the 6th edition to the Fabric series.

Jay Tripwire marks the mix with an early highlight with his "Acid Soul", a smooth and slightly tribal affair, and as the name suggests, subtle acid riffs to match. DJ Buck's "Release the Tension" is a beautiful record with its clattering drums and harmonious delicate melodies. The hypnotic "Another Kind Of Dream" by the Base Boys is certainly up there on the highlights of this mix, a fusion of rolling drums with magnetic vocal samples to match. The oddly titled "Loudkissing" by Elio is a heavy and empowering housey number and follows two more tracks from the highly talented Jay Tripwire. Grant Dell and Bob De Rosa show us how it's done with "Letting Go", a bopping affair of silky house and delayed vocal samples. The mix ends of with the vocals of Cornell Campbell with "King In My Empire", a production from Rhythm & Sound, a minimalist ending of slow flowing house complete with soulful vocals.

So how does Tyler's fabric feel like compared to the rest of the mixes before him. Well it's definitely up there. Tracks from DJ Buck, Jay Tripwire and the Base Boys have a big part to play in this. It's simply put, a quality house mix from start to finish, and demonstrates the appeal Tyler has with the fabric residents in the last year or so. Well worth a listen for those who love their house.
